I was riding my sled the other day and something didn't seem right the engagement was around 2500rpm.
Come to find out that my primary spring was broke.

Called all the dealerships in Nova Scotia and not one had the factory Blue silver Blue spring, so I called Dalton and ordered the
Dalton Orange DPPS-O 28kg 132kg
I put it in tonight and expected a lower engagement and wow I guess I was wrong. I would say it was right around 4600 and it would bounce off the limiter as far as I had room in my yard about 60km/hr.
Does this seem right ?

Nope. Buy a "soft touch" from Barn of Parts here on TY and get the lower engagement.

Is there any possible way to get this fixed up easy to get by for another ride for the last time this season? I wont have time to wait for Parts.

Just about any Yamaha spring will get you by, ask your friends or dealer for a green/white/green spring or just about any later model Yamaha spring

I am not an expert on Viper clutching however I can tell you something is not correct here. A 28lbs preload primary should not give you 4,600rpm engagment. What color was your primary spring in there that was broken? Did you make sure there were no shims in moveable sheave or cover?

Where are you located Kodak?
Original spring was blue silver blue, and I never noticed any shims. I'm going to take it apart tomorrow again to double check.

He used an aftermarket spring not a Yamaha spring. 28kg = 61 pounds 132kg = 291 pounds

so 61/291 -not -35/101 like stock.

I ended up using yellow-white-yellow which is one step Below g-w-g which keeps it off the rev limiter at WOT.

The stock 35/101 is in KG measurement as well, not in pounds. The orange Dalton should not have raised his engagement. Top end shift, yes, but not engagement.

You are right, I was still thinking skid shock spring in my mind....both are kg. What is the Dalton spring length?

Approximately 81mm free length.

Servicing my 2015, noticed primary spring broken, explains low engagement speed. Yamaha must of changed suppliers, I have owned several high mileage Yamaha four strokes, never any clutch issues.
