My wife and I just got back from riding this past week in the Keweenaw area of the UP. It was the first time that both of us had a chance to go riding together this season.

For mid-March the trails were in mint condition. Perfect weather, and very low traffic on the trails made for some great riding conditions. We took some time to venture off the trails and saw some really awesome sights along the shores of Lake Superior.

If the temps don't stray too far above freezing, with the snow that's on the ground I would say that a guy could ride at least another two weeks in that area. I was told that they'll be grooming through the end of March as long as the snow conditions allow them to.

Here's some pics of the area:

The rear idlers on the red sled are carbon fiber wheels from Nextech. Here's a link to their website: carbonsled.com
I've run them this year about 800 miles so far and they look like new. The rest of the idler wheels on both sleds are the Yamaha spoked accessory wheels with replaceable bearings, and have been holding up just fine so far.

Angus, I'm planning on keeping both of these sleds next year. Both my wife and I really like these Apex based sleds, and since Yamaha is not making any significant changes to the Apex line in '09 I don't see any reason to want to sell.

The red sled has a 136" ProActive based skid that is perfect for my style of riding, and her blue sled has the 136" monoshock skid with the Ohlins EC that's perfect for her style of riding. Her Ohlins shock/spring has been updated to the '08 LTX GT specs. I've just got a few things to fine tune yet on the ProActive skid to make it just right for my weight and I'll be good to go for next season.

Awesome photos Don, great looking custom paint schemes too! Were they taken with a point and shoot digital? If so, you must have a reasonable zoom on it. I was up there in mid Feb. and the trails were awesome. Some of our guys in my group offered some $$ down on a house west of Bergland.
