Not sure if it's technique or not. What Alex did say is that the computer can't be interrupted in the least when reflashing. He said you can't touch anything on the sled and the computer needs a constant power source so any fluctuations in power can screw up the install. he said it was strange. The ecu showed the reflash was attempted on both but it didn't say whether it took or didn't. The computer said the vin # wasn't in the system as being done yet on either sled so they attempted it again. Alex said he wished he could have erase the ecu and reflash it from scratch but it wouldn't allow him to do it. All in all I'm not exactly sure what happened but all I know is they seem to run a lot better not than before. No starting or stalling issues to report after 2 full days and about 300 miles over those 2 days. Time will tell I guess.

The Folks at Big Moose are nice. They have always been a big help to us. 3 years ago some buddies and I were up in Old Forge and one of the coolant hoses came loose in my buddy's 1100 turbo cat and they got him in and fixed it while we waited. I always try to stop in there when I'm up that way. At the very least I grab a few gal of gas from the pumps out front. Hows the snow in Old Forge? I am heading there next weekend for a cpl days.

I've got a 2015 ltx spring order sled that had the reflash done before I put any miles on it. I have no cold start or idle issues, but I have had the hot start issue several times and it even back fired on me once. Sometimes it take 5-10 times cranking the motor over to get it fired up, sometimes only 2-3, and sometimes it doesn't do it at all and fires right up. I have about 300 miles on the sled and that's been the only issue so far for me.
While a technique should not be required try turning the key as fast as possible. Dont wait for pump or dash just grab the key and crank it. Its worked for many I have shown and is habit I have gotten used to now. Worth a shot. Also mine did take a bit to have a decent idle after the reflash.

This is what we have seen also. Is very sensitive. The shop now has a new laptop with a new battery and is plugged in also. There is nothing else on the laptop except for the internet which is needed.

I couldn't agree more! I have flashed countless computers over the years and stable power is the number 1 thing.

You don't think getting the extra fuel from waiting for it to prime will help start hot? It's just seemed when I turned the key all the way off then on again is when it would want to start back up.While a technique should not be required try turning the key as fast as possible. No I dont. The fuel system has pressure in it even after sitting all summer long. The whole system. Thats alot of gas. Now if that gas is bad in line, rail and injectors it may not start but once running every week during the season that is highly unlikely. No reason at all to prime. Easy thing to try.

Hey cannondale27, how long is "a bit" with your idle hunting? I bought my 2014 LTX SE Viper from the dealer about a month ago and I've noticed that everytime I start it and let it idle-it's always hunting, never smoothens out. (Fluctuates between 1480-1530rpm). I don't have any k's on the sled as there isn't enough snow here to ride and not gonna bother buggering up the sled on what little snow we do have.
I understand that it needs to be ridden but I was told the update is done and it's the first thing I noticed when I got it home and let it run for a bit.

My buddy had his 7000 flashed at same time as mine. We went riding immediately after so both had exactly same run time after flash. They both were real erratic and almost would stall for about 4hrs of run time. Especially after a WFO run. Experienced it several times. After that its pretty steady varies about 10rpm on tach which is probably more since it is slow reading. Mine idles at 1500rpm if I remember right. But I do have a PCV with Ulmer tune. Havent looked to see if that tune is in effect at idle. I will ask my buddy who does not have a tuner what his idle is. But anyway I am happy with run quality now.

Cool. Thanks for the reply. Keep me posted on your buddies sled. I'm dieing to ride mine to see if it will go away, I know if I take it back to the dealer they will tell me it needs to be ridden to determine whether or not it will go away on its own. I hope it does cuz it is very erratic, and doesn't seem right.

Had the same unstable idle but now after about 350 mi it went away and it runs great!! no issues, starts and runs so much better than before. being that these sleds use an o2 sensor and being a closed loop system iam sure there is some adaptive stratagy (auto tune if you will) built in. Cars have used this system for many years and allows the system adjust for minor wear and tolerence in the system.

I can say that I am not very impressed with the results of the reflash. It idles rough, seems to have severe engine breaking, and will stall if i let off the gas sometimes, even when coming into a sharp corner or pulling up to a stop sign. very annoying. Seems to be worse after it warms up. Seems to have harder starts than before the reflas also.

Take it back and redo reflash.

Just had the dealer call me saying they can't re-flash as my machine as it has the latest and is in for service. I called Yamaha Motors and asked them if anyone was experiencing the idle/die issues when warm after the re-flash. He said within the last 2 weeks they've had a number of call of complains of the same symptoms I'm having. He said it seems to be with the 2014's and not the 2015. He said they are puzzled right now as the 2015 have the same map and they haven't heard of any issues with those as of yet. Just thought i'd let you guys know.
