Well so much for my sleds maiden voyage, alacart cat chaincase, again

I have had three R motion rear Doo's and my SW rides every bit as good. Others have reported hard riding SW's but I have yet to experience anything rough or hard about mine over any type of trails. I find the rear skid to be very smooth and compliant.
Hi brother,i believe it is a milage problem, and him being 30 lbs lighter than I am. Once I am able to ride it,at 200lbs I feel it will be ok,and 500 miles will losen up a lot of that type of thing.

I'm not convinced the borg gears are hyvo. The chain is. You can tell the difference in chains by the size of the pins. Bigger pin is hyvo. Cat supposedly went to hyvo gears/chain and I sent my stock turbo 16 gears and chain out to be tested. The result was hyvo chain and non hyvo gears. They were 13w gears and chain that was put in the 16 turbo cats and everyone was told its all hyvo. So I can't prove the Yamaha stock gears are not hyvo but I wouldn't assume they are. I know the scott taylor top gear is expensive but he also puts 2 lube holes in the gear to lube the bushing in there. These seem to wear out around 3000 to 4000 mile mark and create a wobble on the shaft which can throw your sled out of gear. Just food for thought.

Hi Bro,we found the culprit, the 84 pitch cat chain,i cant find my slip telling me what its number is,but all I can find under cat numbers for a 84 pitch is a 13 wide, not 15 like my stock chain. The chain failed in 4 places, and when compared to my 86 pitch stock chain which is now going in,it is light, the way they weve the links togeather, not nearly as heavy, hopefully that was the problem. So for now 22 top 15 wide and 41 stock 13 wide on stock 86 pitch 15 wide, man that mother is tight fit.

I just had to tighten my track at 1,800 miles due to ratcheting.

Don't think it was track rachet, after further review, the damage to the chaincase, its determined chain failure may of been what he heard. Sense it was only the chain that broke, and no other parts were damaged, and it was a 15 wide 84 pitch cat chain p/n 2602-365 newer chain, but it did not like the 70 or so extra horses lol.

Boy did we ever get lucky, after breaking into case, thinking the worse, wow only a broke kitty chain, that we installed to gear up for extra power. The fact that there were so many chances, this could have been very bad,and wasent,is just almost unbelievable, but I am glad it was what it was and nothing more. I had picked up a cat 84 pitch chain in order to gear up,because stock gear ratio is sorta short for this kind of power. So I had already bought cat 38 hyvo bottom 13 wide, and used stock 21 hyvo 15 wide,so I needed a 15 wide hyvo 84 pitch chain,ok we got what we thought was a hyvo chain, after looking it over more closely now,and compairing to stock 86 pitch Yamaha hyvo chain.well you can clearly see the links and pins are smaller and weaker, the way they interweve thim. the chain p/n 2602-365 so we now have it 22 top 15 wide hyvo, stock 41 hyvo 13 wide, and stock 86 pitch Yamaha hyvo chain, and I don't think we will have a lot more problems again. Good thing that chain did not come apart at 115 when he said track racheted, because I now think he was hearinf chain rachet,or just chain noise, flooping around, and glad it did not jam up and stop him dead in his tracks,he may not still be here talking to me. Thank God

Cat chain hmmm
Ya,it was suppose to be hyvo chain, but eventhough it is 15 wide, same as Yamaha stock chain, you can see a difference in the way it is put togeather, smaller pins, differant weve.

Always good to have the least damage......good for you

Yes it sure is,but we just crap lucky.

I have not checked all of this list for accuracy but all I have its right on. So be careful when buying Cat stuff. They were late to the ballgame vs the Vipers and 7000's

The 2602-365 is for CAT silent chain, not the hyvo. The correct cat part number for 84p 15w hyvo chain is 2602-838. Thats why you were getting a ratcheting noise in the chain case and the chain eventually let go.
Thanks bro, that makes sense now than.
