It all seemed to be based on the snow conditions that people rode in. Most Doo guys seemed to be OK, but there was one guy that only got 800 miles on his skis before they were shot. Another guy only got 600 miles on the Pilots.
Again, the Doo Talk posts on performance are very positive. Durability seems to be the issue when you ride in poor snow conditions. Not saying the skis are bad at all because I am considering installing them on my Attak. But I thought the durability issue was something that everyone should be aware of.

So it looks like stock skis with bigger bars. I buddy i ride with rides an 06 rev and we swapped last year for a bit and he even told me my sled handled better than his. "At least your turns when you want it too"
I have the stock skis with 6" dooleys.
Whats the difference in the shapers vs. dooleys?

Shapers are...well...shaped different with single carbide, made by Stud Boy:

Dooleys have dual carbides side-by-side, and made by Woodys:

Did you like em or what ?X-APE said:MY gt went from dangerous and unaccepstable darting, to decent with shims, and duallys. This IS the best fix for the buck. I tried pilot skiis, and slt's. I'd like to thank the guys again who acknowledged, helped, and posted these tips.
Shims can be quickly made and duallys cost about $120.
The pilots darted same as stock but float was better. Slp straight line trackers worked well but no better than stocks with shim 3/8" and woody's doolys. The front on these sleds is heavy, and the mono susp is not taking up much of the weight.....like it would with a regular two shock multi spring susp. Center pressure and traction are weakened and ski pressure is too high. The stiffer you can crank the monospring, the better. Yam should have incorporated an adjustable leverage ratio for the front arm, in the rear susp....this way we could adjust center track pressure to increase traction and lighten up the steering/eliminate the darting. Some guys dropped the front end down (useing lowering plates)to cause similar effect. I have my front shock springs full loose (when front is lifted) so as to try and lighten up ski pressure as much as poss. Definately far better than stock settings.

Using Woody's doolies seems to stop the darting and give great wear. I use 8" doolies (16" of carbide per ski) with 144 studs. Works great.

I find it fascinating that a mere 44% of respondants (as of today) have kept their stock skis...that's including those who made carbide/shim changes...
In my mind that sends a huge message about the quality of the stock skis on these sleds...or lack thereof...
I highly doubt many other brands have more than half of their owners dumping the stock shoes on a model that's only been on the snow for ONE full season so far...

I'm wondering how many people change them out after 1-ride, or before they even try them because they had skis from a previous sled that they had good luck with. How many people just swap them out without even trying to make any suspension changes to make them work?
Who knows...maybe if I ran for a couple days on the most voted for aftermarket then went back to stock, I'd think they're crap too. But for the little riding I've done so far (~1600 miles), I don't have any issue with them.

I rode the stock skis for 600 miles and new I hated them, switched and solved the handleing and darting issues.
skis & carbides is always different for everyone, depending on how hard you ride and the conditions you ride in.
Most guys I know on doo's change there skis as well.

The marbled skis are $390 solid colors are $370, with mount kits. My friend Steve (owns Cooke City Sinclair) sells them. He buys them from somebody in South Dakota. I can get you the name of the guy off my ski box.

I think what we "sled crazy tech riders" on TY do to our sled does not represent what happens in the market place. I bet most Apex and Attak's have stock skis in the "real world". That being said it is amazing that so many have replaced the stock ski set up on this site.
