Just like the header says what does it sound like when your exhaust donuts are leaking. I am getting a kind of rattling sound from my 05 rx1 exhaust.

A rattle at low idle is usually how it starts. It seems to disappear while under throttle throttle in the earlier stages. I think as it worsens, it makes a loud growling noise while riding the trails, particular when on the throttle.

Thanks Grimm I do have a rattle at idle and the rattling goes into a higher pitch when on the throttle. Loss of performance as well.

Do the RAG TEST...

When sled is cold (start up) take 2 rags while sled is running and BLOCK off the 2 rear exhaust outlets with moderate pressure, if your DONUTS are in GOOD shape you will build up back PRESSURE, the sled will tend to stall quickly, when DONUTS are on their way out it'll tend to keep on running and depending on how bad they are you can hear them leaking under the gas tank area...also check for CRACKS at the mid intersection of the HEADER & EXHAUST "Y" they're prone for that!

Took the sled out and put about 50 miles on it and it sure ran good it just makes this rattling sound on idle and pithes a little higher when reving up. I guess the seat has to come off and check it out. I read that a couple of allen bolts like to strip when doing this is there any tricks to avoid this or just heat them up real good prior to applying the torque to take them out?

It maybe a hole is starting in the exhaust itself. The 05's have the titanium exhaust, where as the 03 and 04 are SST. I had to replace mine, so you can save 1/2 the money and use the 03-04 style, direct replacement. They went to Titianium to save weight and added 2x to the cost.

There is no doubt if the exhaust has failed I going to replace with one from 03 or 04.

my heat shields were loose on mine and making a racket... removed them and that solved my issue. Have fun with the exhaust removal! If only they had the clips the other way you wouldn't have to remove your flexpipes to get them out. yeah and those bolts can be tight use a 5mm allen on a 3/8" drive ratchet with extension. Little bit of heat and penetrating oil if it doesn't feel like it will come.

Well it sounds like this, light rattle (not the normal clutch rattle) and a loud buzzing sound (RPM dependant). Then you remove the factory heat shields and throw them in the garbage. Now you go from the light rattle and loud buzz to NO buzz and a lot of rattle. Then you spend a long evening and a case of beer later to a nice quite hum! Of course you will still have the clutch rattle. Still the best sled ever!
