Now that the snow is gone and I have my Cats all in a line, I drug the 1 ton out and at any boost other than low it is filling the cooling system and pouring out antifreeze. Who is making the best head gaskets now?? Also, what experiences has everyone had with doubling up. Can you run pump gas at 12psi with two gaskets, will they leak quicker?? Any thoughts and your time are greatly appreciated.
thanks

the stock yamaha gaskets work fine, I would put three if you want to run #12 on pump fuel, I put heavy duty crome moly head studs in to tork them down alittle tighter works good. I have seen #22 no problems.

That's right, the head studs stretched. Through them away and get non-gertaled studs. I think freddie has them in stock, around 80 bucks.

or (www.aperaceparts.com) with the hd studs three head gaskets won,t leak
two yamaha head gaskets, stock head bolts. 1000miles 12psi on pump. Been GREAT!! If you raise the head anymore you need to slot your cam gears to get the timming back.

With heavy duty studs what did you torque the head to? Did you take gasket apart and use copper coat or anything like that? I am having same problem, pumping antifreeze out at full throttle. By the way, any tricks to aligning the cams? When I start to tighten chain won't that make the cams move?
Thanks for any suggestions

I had the same prob with my cometic gaskets. They are not made perfectly. I would rec only using multiple Yamaha gaskets and will never touch a cometic again. I personally dont believe that the studs and nuts are critical until you start boosting over about 15lbs. Ran all year last year with stock studs and nuts.

I run 16psi alot on the lakes. I think for the 80.00 if I am going to have the motor down that far I will put in the studs. What do I torque the head to with the aftermarket studs and two gaskets????

I believe they said 42 lb on the package, I torked mine alittle tighter than that.
Care full! You can pull the stud right out of the block!!! 38-40 tops!

Why are you guys pushing all the ant-freeze out of your holding tank? Are the head gaskets really failing? Or just when too much boost for too long of period? It seems to be symptimatic with only high, high boost & too long period?
