Hey everyone ive been looking at 3 different sleds and want to upgrade to one of them after selling my Vmax 700. Ive rode an rx1 before and love the 4stroke. The first one is an 06 Yamaha Apex Gt for $4400 that has about 16,000km and is in really nice shape. All the guy has done to it was put a new battery in and add a fourth wheel kit to the track. Second sled is for $4,000 obo and its a 04 Rx1 with 12,214km. Its in excellent shape and has an ice gripper track with updated ski doo suspension, guy claims its much better than the rx1 stock suspension. Last one is the most expensive. 2008 Apex RTX 11,500km- $5700obo. Thing is mint and looks wicked, it has fox floats on the front which I hear are very nice for more bumpy riding. There is a brand new track(standard length with 1.5 inch paddle) that has never seen snow with stud boy studs down the center, new sliders and wheels, exhaust donuts done ,bearings, yamaheaters, shocks done 2 years ago and it has ice scrapers. Only bad thing I heard about these floats on the rtx is that when you put the pump on and put air in, the oxygen will corrode the parts inside and you need to get them rebuilt and that wouldn't be too enjoyable doing that every 2 years I was down to the guys place and he would take $5400. I know the km's on all these sleds are nothing for the Genesis engine and they are all good sleds but id appreciate hearing what some other guys think the best deal is. Thanks and I hope the pictures come through(there's 3 of the RTX)

the rx and the apex gt look to be set for better trail cruising. the rtx is set for more rough/pounding trails. the milages are not even a factor if the maintence was good on all sleds. the main thing is to buy the sled for the majority of your riding and get it set right.
i would personally go for the rtx and swap the fox shocks for a set of gytr clicker shocks as i know the local trails can get pretty bad at times hole and lump wise.

I would go for the GT. Reasons; FI over the carbed RX , Mono over the RTX skid, very few mods so you can make the sled your own modded way and the black and silver is just so cool looking.

You will not like the lower seat on the RX-1 if you compare it to the other two, so I would eliminate that one unless you want to start putting $ into it right away.

I agree with the guys above. Fuel Injection! No carbs to worry about or clean. As for the extra money for the '08....I would consider it but the only thing I question is the 1.5" track. Does anyone else have more feedback on this? I can see this really eating sliders as you are even farther from the snow as well as heating up even faster across a lake. Ice scratchers would be a must I would think.
Also, I always try to stay away from first year products so I am sure there are some refinements on the '08 from the '06. As for the Fox Floats being rebuilt every two years? All shocks should be serviced every other season as a bare minimum. Just oil changes don't cost that much. Don't let that sway your decision.
The '08 has the Yamaheater. I am telling you that you this upgrade is a MUST for the '06 if it doesn't have it.
Check out other stuff that is not so obvious such as play in the front end. Yes 16000 km's is nothing for the engine, but how dirty are the clutches? Have they been maintained? Has the front end been taken apart and greased?
However you go, I absolutely love my '07 GT.

Yes the first year is also a tough year. The only difference big in the 06 to 08 is the handle bars. The 06 has the aluminum hooks and the short heated grip. This makes for cold fingers even with a YamaHeater installed. I have converted a few sleds to a newer 07 and up design to address that problem. Very easy mod to do and as chris189 said the YamaHeater is still a must on any of the sleds you are looking at.
The GYTRs are excellent shocks and as in any shock they should be serviced every year according to my local shock rebuilder.

I disagree the 06 bars are the warmest if you rewire them you wont have to spend the money on yamaheaters they get so warm that you will prolly never even use them on high. we had 3 07's and one 06 in our group and the 06 had the worst heat of all and then i found the rewire on this site and wamo he had the warmest hads of everyone i bought the yamaheater for mine and it was awesome as well but his just cost a few butt connectors and free directions off this site I would love to have 06 bars on my curent xtx as it still lacks some times.
Yes. Modded 06 bars are the hottest setup you can get. You do have to be careful on how high you set them. You risk burning out the elements, wiring and stator if you run them to high.
It is the cheapest solution for the cold 06 bars. This still does not provide any heat to the hooked area. I find I have to crowd my hand on the grip part to keep my fingers from freezing which is not fun.
With my riding style I use the hooked area on my 07 bars all the time and would really miss the heat in this area.

I have a modded out rtx and I love the thing. Never experienced the fox floats but I am putting on gytr clickers and it has a expert x suspension in the rear. First thing I would do to it though if you are ever considering taking it off trail is put a 144 or larger on the thing cause these puppies are much heavier than your vmax you had. I had the vmax xtc-p 700 and went to this thing and it is a bit of a difference.
