Snowdust, just start in the center with as much center clearance as you want and work outwards by 3/16 inch on each bar until you run out of room.
I started with the stud tip 1 inch on either side of center. 1st bar two double backers. ( i actually did all the doubles first to get a rythem) skip a bar move the backers out 3/16 inch on each side. With 2" of center clearance i went 4 rows of double backers before i had to repeat. Instead of repeating entirely i moved my start point out 1/16 from center each side.
then i filled in with the singles. I started them next to the window and moved closer to the center . essentially forming an X pattern but it's hardly noticeable.
Overall the pattern only truly repeats twice.
I thought i saved time by putting everything on finger tight then coming back with an impact wrench to snug them up and then torquing them, but i'm sure everybody has their own way of doing things.
