That would be a function of the powerband. 4 strokes tend to be much flatter and you don't get that 'hit' you feel with a smoker. I know I'll never go back. I love these motors.
Have you seen the snowtrax tv review of the rtx?

comatoast, I just sold my 02 viper er on new years eve, and picked up my 09 XTX a few days before.
As much as I do deeply miss the sweet sound of the viper's motor and the top end speed and crazy on-trail handling, the XTX blows it completely out of mind everywhere else!!!
I do about 30% trail, 40% lakes and bush trails and the rest ditch banging and playing in old gravel pits, I am so glad I made the upgrade!

True. The sound was perfect. A very quiet sled ( stock) but screamed wide open. I'm always gonna miss that one because it was the first sled I ever bought that I actually really wanted and liked everything about. Others I have bought were just to have a sled.
I'm sure with tweaking I'll like a nytro but it's tough to get motivated when even the members in here have a hard time backing up yamaha

TY 4 Stroke God
A friend of mine just came off a Viper and bought a 2011 Nytro. He is more than happy with it. I think Im the one to blame for him to make the switch.
I am sure you will be happy with it, It takes a little tweaking to get it 100%, but its not a bad sled stock either..

TY 4 Stroke Junkie
Weird, I rode a 600 etec and I honestly thought it was a complete and total dog...who knows. If you don't mind a little extra money and times playing with shocks and cold hands a Yamaha can be as good if not better than a skud...

I and many others can assure you it's no dog, but like mentioned before. Different powerband. The lake runs shocked me when we were each back and forth. Didn't hink etec was that quick

No, I would have to say that it clearly isn't a dog, dyno sheets and numerous accounts from owners and non-owenrs prove that. I just found it really weird because the one I rode is owned by a guy who is currently on his fourth xp snowmobile and knows what he is doing? I don't know, I do know if I was buying a 2-smoke it would 800 etec for sure...

I'll be debating on this until I buy. The 600 etec is plenty fast for me and seems to be a bit more reliable than the 800. The etec has a better chassis , suspension and gas mileage. Then there's the nytro. With slide and bearing issues , frozen relays and a heavy 4 stroke.
How this is a tough decision I don't know. But I'm still debating.

So, just not to come off looking like a troll, why don't you list out the pros and cons of each sled? I love Doos - don't get me wrong. But to love them, you have to know them.

Doos
2 stroke - I don't mind the smoke smell ( what little very smoke there is because I'm not a liberalist hippy treehugger. The smell brings me back to the days if a kid and what snowmobiling was really about )
Chassis/suspension- ski doo
Ride quality - ski doo
Handling - ski doo
Gas mileage - ski doo
Reliability. - depending who you ask it's a toss up. Yea a 4 stroke is great but look at all the other issues with yamaha as well, all the way up top from the grips to the slides. Plus doo makes a 4 stroke as well
Price - ski doo
Fit and finish. - body - ski doo
Instruments - yamaha.
That's my breakdown

Then you have made your decision. dootalk.com is a great site - will learn everything you need to know about your new ride and more over there.

No. That's the confusing part. Something keeps bringing me back to yamaha. :/
IMHO:
Chassis - Doo - it is a marvel
Suspension - Nytro: no fade, none, zero. And adjustability galore on the "base" model.
Handling - stock - Doo - no doubt.
Gas Mileage - toss up (Ive been getting 15-17) my friend is within a few tenths of a gallon when we fill up.
Reliability / Durability - Yamaha. Every REAL Doo guy will tell you the same thing - to love them you have to know them.
Price - I paid less for my leftover Nytro new than my buddy paid for his TNT 600 E-Tech (not leftover). But brand new they are within a couple hundred bucks in the Western NY area for the 2011s if you can find one.
Instruments - who cares? But OK - Yamaha.
2 Stroke vs. 4 Stroke: it's all about the tradeoff between weight and durability.
Resale: look up a few 2 or 3 year old Doos vs. 2 or 3 year old Nytro or Apex models on E Bay - actual selling prices in completed auctions. Yamaha is the King.
That said - I still love Doos. And am learning to love my Nytro - it's growing on me.

I agree withyou as well. My odds favor the doos but I keep going back to the nytro. And I don't know why. The weight doesn't bother me. I'm in 2-3 feet of snow MAX, the odd looks of he nytro are now growing on me , the handling even tweaked are not near ski doo. That's just me tho. But I'm nit buying a race sled. I'm buying a reliable ditch banger
