You can find Sno Scoot's around infact there was just a pair of them not long ago in really nice cond on EBay.
Sorry for the mis understanding. I have not been around the 4 stroke Phazer but 90+ mph is crazy. They must be geared up. I always thought the 500 class sleds all did around 70 mph??? My nytro tops out at 95mph.

The speedo's are very close on the Phazer's. I am 6'+ and 225+ and I have pulled 91-92 on a hard packed rail bed, I have heard of people radaring 100+ with good set up on ice. They run very strong!iwillwait4u said:kviper said:I was referring to the original poster but any way a four stroke Phazer is no 90cc four wheeler. They will radar 90+ and are quite quick! My kids grew up on Ovulations. I have three of them. My son's friend had a Bravo and kids grow out of that pretty fast. They started on the O's when they were 6 years old. I had a block in the throttles. Anyway they drove them right through high school. I then bought them a Viper and Renegade X SDI 600.

Have they driven a sled before? Physically how strong are they? Are they sensible / mature? For new rider of that age a Scoot / Sport would be ideal. If not a short track Bravo / Enticer 250 would be decent .... lots have learned on tundras and elans and similar small sleds. if they have ridden before and a re mature enough you can look at lots of other sleds in the 300 to 340 cc range. 80 hp Phazer would not be a great starter sled as they can get into trouble too quickly

Several years back my son's friend was using his dad's SXR 700. My son asked me for the SRX700 I had to ride with him so he could keep up. I said no way you are too young and sled is too fast. My son, his friend and his dad went for a ride up the lake and my son had to park his Ovulation because it was too slow and had to ride on the back of the SXR. Well at around 70-80mph, my son's friend t-boned his dad on his MM700 and there were bodies flying and two totalled sleds. My son had a bit of a limp and ended up walking it off. They were about 12 or 13 at the time and I told the dad that SXR is too much for his kid and he said he was fine. Obviously he wasn't and thank God no one was hurt or killed.

My son started on a Elan and moved up to an Indy 340 deluxe. Now we argue over who rides my Nyto.

IMHO putting small kids on a full size chassis is A very very bad idea. It wasn't that long ago that a pogo stick Phazer or SRV was considered a full size sled for 200 lb guys
kids simply don't have the strength to throw them around My wife's 00 Phazer is still a full size chassis and capable of 75+mph still to big and heavy depending on the kid.
For leaf sprinters. Bravo,Enticer,Doo 377 Safari all good choices.
For IFS Ovation,Inviter,Indy Light, Cat Puma. The Puma is often overlooked but the 340 is bulling proof great on gas, simple to work on. We had one the rear suspension was a little lacking for heavier riders. we swapped in a Cat 580 EXT rear and that made a huge difference an adult could ride it. Went 50 MPH with a few clutch mods plenty fast for a kid.

Both of my boys started on a mini Ski Doo, and by 8 or 9 they outgrew it, and then went to a Enticer 340.. If not much experience I would say the smaller and lighter the better... Its all about experience..

There were a couple yrs that the Indy Lite was made differently compared to the 94's and up ones. (I think 91, 92 and maybe even 93 Indy Lites?)
They had a different length track and used, I believe, a direct drive sytem instead of a chain and chaincase design?
Anyways, be cautious/careful if you purchase one as the parts for these are getting really tough to find, at least in my neck of the woods anyways.

And I would like to stick with a Yamaha 4 stroke. I was leaning towards a phazer since it's fairly small and light?
Thanks
Check your laws and get the kid one that fits..my son when he was 12....5-10...180...he rode his own summit and got a 500$ for no permit when he was 13..here in Quebec you need a drivers licence or if under 18 even if you have a drivers licence..anyone born after 1995 ..you need a snowmobile permit...yep the drivers licence is not good enough...no one in Quebec can drive a sled under the age of 16...Isnt that right copper Quebec#1....lol....hes now 6-5...290lbs..and hes 17
