Just switched from an RX1 to a 07 Apex Gt and have been reading the odd post on stator issues. My sled has 9800 mile on it and is getting a good going over this summer, so if stators are a common problem maybe I should change now, but if it is just a random thing I would rather put my money else were. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

if you overload them they can burn out...common overload is from high wattage bulbs....if its been well cared for and stock with no added big draw...Id risk it...although if she fries when its in season....you are s.o.l.

personally think it may be more due to weak and undercharged batteries in the fuel injected sleds causing undue strain on stators

When my stator failed I did some searching around and noticed that it seems like a lot of staters fail in the 10000 mile range.
Obviously it's the Internet so take your info with a grain of salt.
I'm sure there are guys with 20,30,40 thousand on these sleds with no stator issues
My sled battery is always maintained with a trickle charger.
I Never ever had a weak or low battery.
I also ran the factory headlights no mods to bulbs. But did change over to sled start hid kit 2 years before they failed.
It is my understanding that Hid is actually supposed to use less power.
Only additional drain on my battery is a heated shield.
It's a pretty easy fix.. About 2 hrs tops for the whole job.
The issue is gonna be getting the part.
If it was me I would order the side cover gasket and keep it where you keep the sled. It's under10 bucks and 1 less thing you need to find if or when the stator fails.
Next I would talk to my dealer about stocking one. If it is a common problem, they may consider putting one into their stock if they haven't already.
Also you could get the #for the stator and call around now. If you find a dealer with it in stock then it is most likely a stocked item for them and there's a good chance they will have it when you need it
For 260 bucks its kind of expensive to just replace out of fear or worry

I can sell you a good used one with around 2300 miles for $100 if you want to stock or replace.

Most of the stators replaced have been from error code 12 which is the crank position sensor and the only reason that the stators are replaced is that they share the rubber plug.

Why would the crank position sensor go bad then?

Just changed mine on my 06, mostly crank sensors that go bad not the stators, I have a perfectly good stator sitting here but a bad crank sensor.

Yes agreed.
My crank position sensor also failed, not the stator but since they are sold as 1 piece I replaced the stator

So did anyone check to see if the stator has two separate sets of windings, one for lighting and charging and one for the pickup which would use less voltage no doubt but would be more affected by heat. If this pick up side is the fault, then accessories on the machine should not be the issue. more likely a overheated pickup drawing to much current. Maybe?

I have an 11 Apex and I run heated clothing! I did the same on my 04 Warrior for all the years with no charging issues As a matter of fact I just changed the Battery on the 04 Warrior for the first time recently!

Hey Jack-
What a coincidence, we just had an all night wrenching session to change the crank sensor on our '06, the night before leaving for Cochrane last week. 23,000 kms (14,300 mies) on the old one. And yes, the stator is OK.
