I change my oil for the upcoming season in the fall. When does everyone else change?

Manual says Fall, but it makes sense to me to get that crud out of there so it doesn't set all Summer in your engine. For the cost of oil and filter vs. an engine, I'll change it both times.

The products from combustion can make the oil acidic. It is best to change it in the spring.

I change mine in the spring, but if you are using Synthetic Oil you can get away with changing it in the fall because Synthetic oil has the ability to "Suspend" the harmful particles! :D

since we are on the oil topic, I changed my oil this fall and then ended up having back surgury so this year was a wash. About 50 miles were put on the sled. I will change the oil again in the fall but will the filter be necessary? I also change my oil in the fall.

When I use to store cars for the winter I was told NOT to leave the synthetic oil in it because it didn't protect the metal from rust as well as mineral oil...Just a thought.....Years past I use to change the oil in the spring but this year I'm waiting untill fall..... ;)!

Whoever told you that was talking out of their #*$&@ because full synthetic has better molecular adhesion and lubricating properties.

Hey zoom, where did you get that picture for your avatar? Just think how cool our sleds will look if Yamaha makes that exact windshield in Blue chrome ;)!

Cant see the synthetic not being as good as mineral in any aspect. Every test they have done synthetic blows dino oil away. Why let all that crud settle over the summer. Why let the acidic oil eat at everything in the hot summer days. No I am changing mine this spring and put her away with clean oil. I wonder why Yamaha would say to do this. If its going to sit in oil it might as well be clean and in mine it will be synthetic. Could they be trying to get you to buy your next new sled quicker.

I read an article once which was related to storage of vehicles. The one most important thing they say is change the oil. Old oil apparently has acids in it that will pit the bearings during storage. For what it's worth that's what the article said. I changed the oil and filter in the spring.
