Does the engine have to be hot before to get consistant numbers, i realize they would be lower with the engine up to temp and the rings sealing optimally, is it stupid to ask for a leak down test of my engine while its on the bench at the dealer before I take it home? If it varys between cylinders will it tell me anything or just that some rings expand and contract differently and some my be sealing and some would not?

Maybe I anwsered my own question but I'll post anyway :whore:

Thanks!

Rings are only one of the components to a leak down Kinger. You could have them leak it, but don't be freaked out if you have a high-ish number and a bit of air coming out of your crank vent (on a cold motor). Intake and exhaust valves can be assessed independant of engine temp. Same for head gasket. That said, there is really only one way to do a proper leak-down test, and that is on a warm engine.

I have a leak down tester and you should get no more than 10% on a good running engine.

On mine (rx1 not apex....) I got between 4 and 7%
