I'm looking to snorkel my SC Apex through the hood. I will be using a larger air filter and was wondering where you are picking up your filters and snow repellent cover for it?
thanks.
thanks.

the snow covers are just a K&N part.. and I dont have a filter on mine, just a metal frame then the prefilter over it.. works good and wont rip, the stuff is crazy strong

Do you think I'd be alright if I just ran the MPI filter outside the hood for now until I can order a bigger/better filter? Or am I just better off keeping the filter under the hood?
I know on my TNYTRO I ran the filter that came with the NW turbo kit outside the hood and it was constantly freezing off and starving the motor for air.

me too
I was about make a post asking if it worth it to bring the filter out of the hood
I have an Outerwears prefilter on the MPI filter and my vents are covered with the same material, you can get it by the sheet. keeps the snow out pretty good just wipe and go
only time my filter iced up was when i did not use the prefilter and this was before i covered the vents

Here is what I did with mine. It's the stock uni filter that came with the kit.

Hey irondave,
Have you froze that filter off?
On my midmount turbo I snorkeled it with the stock filter just like youve done and the damn thing froze off every ride.
Does anyone have a part # for a filter I can just order from an automotive shop? Or can I just tell them what size I need and they can help me out?
Thanks

This will be my first year on the SC nytro, but the Tapex in the background has the same setup, been riding it that way for 3 years with no problems.

all i know is putting it properly placed outside the engine bay, or up somewhere getting cold air does change the power your gonna make a lot.. on my yamadoo last year, i had the intake well up out of the hood, got air fuel ratio where I wanted it.. I then descided one day I wanted to put it behind the empty headlight openeing. it was half in and half out of the sled.. so getting a full flowing nice amount of fresh air. just that change made it get so rich it was not reving full rpm, and thats only half out the hood.. it does matter. charge temps are basically intake temp x boost levels.. so the higher you start with your air, the higher your charge temps are gonna be.. with how little mine was changed and how much it affected my power.. get it out of the engine bay.
but do try to get it behind something, helps out a lot with plugging on deep days.

just be carel, if you have it angled back and to close to the windshield, it will do what happened to mine, snow goes up over the hood then just funnels against it and plugs it up.. you might have to play with final location, but getting it up and away does nice things.
