Hi folks, thinking of trading in my '04 RX-1 for an '06 model. I want an Attak, but am also considering an Apex RTX. Here's the type of riding I do...
Local...groomed more than 50% of the time, but can be rough, especially after the weekends. It is typical to find good sized moguls throughout our local trail system. However, there are a lot of twists and turns in parts of our system, too, so I need a manueverable sled (that's why I am little hesitant to get the Attak).
Tug Hill...those who ride the Hill know the conditions. I typically ride there only during the week or early Sat. mornings when it's fairly smooth. However, the Hill can get rough quick, and I don't want to be punished if I am late going back to the trailer in the afternoon. This is probably where the RTX would be best, right?
Old Forge...once or twice a year. Well groomed most places, except occasionally in the outskirts of the system.
Quebec...no explanation necessary.
My style of riding is not fast, but not slow. I am not a ditchbanger or a person there for the scenery...kinda somewhere in the middle.
I rarely, actually never, ride off groomed trails or break trail. I thought the Attak would be best because it offers the best overall ride of the new models. I think the Apex GT would be too soft and plush...even though I am not a fast rider, I think the GT is not the best for the trails I ride. I also want to try a longer track, it would be my first...not to mention, the better grip for acceleration and if the trails have lots of lake effect snow on them.
Please share your opinions.

If there is nothing wrong with your sled, I would wait until next year.
Supposedly Feb 12, Yamaha is going to announce the 2007 models to the dealers.
Just my opinion.

I really like my Warrior over shorter sleds. I just like how the extra lenth really bridges the moguls when the trails are getting beat up later in the day. The extra weight may take a bit off the top end, but the lenght also gives you a bigger footprint, resulting in better traction out of the hole. Personally wouldn't likely ever go back to the 121".

Coming off a Warrior myself I can understand where you're coming from. All I can say is that I feel like I'm on a 121 incher while on my Attak compared to how the Warrior handled.

I gotta vote RTX. If I do end up selling mine this yr., I will get a RTX(or comparable one) next yr.
I like those floats up front!

I guess it just depends on how comfortable you are with the longer skid. The Attak does give you a bit more off trail capability but I got to tell you last week I took my RTX through stuff that I would have never dreamed of sticking the RX-1 into. Was riding in 2' ungroomed off trial & logging roads. the skis were more of a hinderance than anything but they are the same on the Attak.
On the rough trails the floats do make a huge difference up front in feed back and arm pump. If you are driving trails even with 96 studs I am able to power the rear through a turn where the Attaks I have ridden with hook up so hard they are driving in deep and breaking and then powering out of turns. I still feel the RTX is more comfortable after a long day 100- 200 miles of twisties. Just my .02 cents

I bought an Apex GT, but, I wouldn't of if I didn't have a Warrior. Definately get the Attak. The versatility of the 136" track will amaze you.

Being as you are in NY. I will suggest you come out to the Hayloft in Redfield this weekend and Demo ride the sleds. I am contracted through Yamaha to work the demo rides. We had a guy from Vermont come to Old forge last weekend and he rode every sled we had there at least twice before he made his decision to buy the GT. If you can't go this weekend Pm me and I'll give you our entire schedule of events for the winter....mike

Hey Mike...did I run into you at a trail junction last Sunday not too far from Redfield? I was the one with the red RX-1 with all of the mud on the front.
Can you provide directions to the Hayloft? Would love to get there early and ride an RTX and Attak.
