I've never experimented with aftermarket skis. I've heard good things about Curve skis and was wondering which ones those with experience recommend for 80% trail/20% off trail. Any input would be great.
Thanks

I would think the XSM series are the ticket if you ride that much off trail. All the benefits of the CURVEs with the extra floatation...and they can be mounted differently oriented to take advantage of the wider outside edges to suit the conditions or your preference.
I've never used em...I run XS curves but mostly trail ride.

I put the standard XS models on my Attak last year. So far so good. They corner real well. The handling was so precise it amplified that I needed to re-bush my front end which is now done.

Not sure on the riding ratio as you've mentioned, but I've made a decision and ordered a set of the XS Curves (based on research, site commentary and some excellent insight from AXR). Should have them tomorrow and hopefully installed and riding by the w/e. We'll cross paths at some point in the north country lol.

Nice! We think alike lol, I'm right on the trail to Whitson, I'd like to meet up some time to check out the skis and see how loud the hurricane hindle is. Where did you get them from and how much if you don't mind me asking. Not sure on the riding ratio as you've mentioned, but I've made a decision and ordered a set of the XS Curves (based on research, site commentary and some excellent insight from AXR). Not a sidewinder but I had a set on a 2016 turbo cat last season and removed them. Heavy steering but lots of push. Did not work as advertised returned and took advantage of the money back guarantee.I've never experimented with aftermarket skis. The mistake most people make when buying Curves is too long of carbide runner. You generally go down a size than most other skis.
For instance on my sled most skis I would use a 6" carbide. With the Curves I use a 4" and it's perfect. That's on my Attak with an unstudded 136" Ripsaw II. No push in corners either.
Too long and you'll likely get heavy steering. You can always mess with your rear skid to lighten up the ski pressure.

The Xs skis are more then capable off trail ski. Was in some decent powder this past weekend and it stayed right on top no problem. When I called Chad recommend the XS and I ride similar trail off trail. Love these skis.

I got mine from Barn of Parts but questioned the 4" carbides that came as a package. I found out the rep for Curve actually lived near me and we chatted. He assured me that the 4" was perfect for my application and he was correct.
Not that a 136" Apex is an optimal off trail sled but I did experience some powder situations riding in a blizzard last season and I thought they performed awesome. Much better than my stock skis. I still keep hearing pros and cons about the Tuner skis so I stayed away from those.

I ride about the same ratio as you. My off trail is going ice fishing though not really ripping through the bush. I put the XS on my Viper and love them. It made my sled feel lighter. With 4" stock carbides and no studs, I can whip the rear end around corners on the trail. The trail version floats very well in deep snow. I have only had the tuners and the curves but wouldn't hesitate recommending the XS curves
