Which suspension do you recommend for my Apex?

if your concidering another brands skid, then get one from a comparable machine. by this i mean in weight and calibration, eg. a 2 up long track. the spring and shock calibrations are important as you dont want to have to change out everything to make it work. also be sure to get proper measurements from the doner sled, distance back and distance down for mounting points.

I'm not real happy with the zx2. Too soft for hard ditch banging. I tried all settings. ADBoivin doesn't believe the shocks need to be revalved. They want me to use heavier springs. On really bad trails when you just want to hold it open and hit the tops of the bumps it bottoms hard and almost sends you over the bars. I had a Hygear trail pro setup on my mono, that worked great all around, even in the really bad stuff. The only problem was that something always seemed to break in the skid once or twice a year, plus the slider issues. I have my gforce shocks at Hygear right now getting revalved. Hopefully they'll get them dialed in for me. If not I might go back to the mono with the trail pro setup.

Definitly sounds like a shock problem, I have been told I ride like a stupid man over some ROUGH stuff and I swear the Zx2 just laughed at it.

This is my 4th year (no maint on the zx 2 ever) and I haven't slowed down but my ZX2 is bottoming hard and like you I'm frustrated with it but I know its just the shocks, I am going to send them out and get them freshened up and be back in business again, riding like this stinks!

If hygear can get them working properly you will not stop smiling. Let me know how they work I am looking for places to send mine.

HYGEAR NAILED IT!!!!!!!!
Whatever they did to the valve stack, this is better than anything I have ever ridden! It's plush on the small stuff and you can hold it wide open and just ride the tops of the really bad stuff. I've had m-10's, revalves, and other setups. This BY FAR is the best ever setup I tried.
If you call them, my account is under anthony kowalchik, tell them you want my setup. I'm 250lbs with gear on.

Was that trail pro revalve on the gt shocks front and back.

OK tony, would you now reccomend this zx2 skid to someone who weighs 230 riding weight, and rides like you do,like to smash thru big bumps as long as its not going to throw me over the bars,i just picked up a used apex gt,again and i will ride it this stock way for memainder of the year, but would you suggest i just go right out and get the zx2 skid, and take the shocks right out,and have hygear do them up,right out of the gate,or just hope that ad bovine got it closer to what i need for 2011,because if i buy the skid for there suggested 1500 bucks, than add another 200 for revalve now i am at around 1800 with shipping, and i still have the stock front shocks to get done,so my feelings would be send all 4 shocks to hygear, and than install the zx2,but now we will be close to 2 grand. Your thoughts.. Thanks

the rebuild/revalve & shipping for both shocks was $199.
Tony there trail pro kit looks to be there most agressive revalve and comes with a pricy tag, like 1 grand,w/add on reses and twisted springs,so you said you had both of the g-force shocks donne for 200 bucks, that sounds good, but what did you have donr to the gyt front shocks, have you had them do any revalving to them?

It's not their trail pro package. That package is for the stock shocks. I bought that whole deal for my mono and front shocks. It worked great, but I kept breaking other stuff in the skid. The front shocks are perfect with that kit. The ZX2 shock revalve they did for me was a custom job. I weigh 250lbs and it works UNBELIEVABLE! I would recommend their front trail pro setup and buy the standard ZX2 setup and send your shocks to Hygear and have them use my setup. When you install it, set the pins for the softest setting. It works better than the m-10 I had and the mono setup. I hope I answered all your questions

Ya most of it,only part i am not sure on,was your front ski shocks, did they rework your stock gyt shocks,or did you buy something completely differant from them. And again thanks for all the info. pete

They reworked my gyt shocks
Can you remember what valve stack they used, and did they change springs on them as well,or stick with stock gyt springs that came on the sled, and can you tell me how much it cost,as at this point,i think i will ask ross to rework my electric ohlins in the rear, and do both ski shocks. i wonder if he offers a dual rate rear spring for the ohlins shock??

I bought the trail pro package for my sled before I bought the zx2.
http://www.hygearsuspension.com/RevalvePackagePage.pdf
It includes dual springs on front and rear, hy low valves on the front and complete revalves. It was around $1500 for everything. It worked great but I still kept breaking w-arms, rails, and burning up sliders. I'm almost positive he keeps all of the setups on record. When I first bought the setup, I sent the rear shock back to get a little stiffer valving on the bottoming stage. Just use my name and tell him you want my setup.

Sense you have the ohlins rear skid like i do,would you be interested in a swap,my rear shock for your rear all set up shock, plus some money,it may be a much cheaper way for me right now,i am inda on a fixed income right now,and i can send him my fronts after i try your back to see how much i really like it. That is if you still have the shock. thanks pete
