Buddy of mine (getting off a machz 1000) is considering buying an Apex and turbo/supercharging it.He tried the turbo cat and it was a slug .Rumors of a 190 hp turbo doo have surfaced (at the dealer) and has his interest but an apex appeals to him too...he rides 3-4000 miles a year but wants to very good on the lake.so i am doing a little research for him. he will need to run on 91 for the most part.Which turbo/sc to buy?in addition to the power adder what else should one do to keep the sled running good with the extra steam? what kind of safe power can you make on 91.The install will most likely be done by us (i have a shop and 25 years wrenching (although i havn't been doing turbo work )I have browsed turbo articles over the past few years and cpr seem to be a leader in the industry and i believe (Jeff i think?))is on here from time to time ....but the 19000 mileS/C apex thread on here sounds impressive too .I under stand S/C make less peek hp but build faster ,but what kind of power on 91......race gas is an option for play days so adjustability would be fun ....Can Anyone steer us in the right direction to start? Thanks Kevin

My next one will probably be a supercharger, more reliable for trail riding, otherwise I recomend to go with Powderlites.

I trail rode my mpi s/c on an Attak for two seasons , was very happy with it. Sold s/c this year and installed powderlites stage 11 turbo with RB3 controller. am happier with turbo on same sled.
On tight twisty trails s/c has more fun factor . overall performance the turbo is better for me . Either way, I have had experience with the Gems controller , Boondocker , and the RB3. Hands down the RB3 is where it is at.
You will have a blast with either one ;)!

I have had both and for the riding i do 95% trail 5% lake fun. The SuperCharger rocks! And dont think a Super will not get it on the lake!! She does the hole shot is so so hard. That is where you win races!!

my supercharged apex ltx is just awesome in the trails and on the lake! i came off a apex on nitrous and that was fun but a s/c is way more fun! i strictly trail ride and occasional lake ride at 8lbs of boost on just premium fuel and its an amazing sled. i ran mine 1600 miles this year without any problems with the kit, it does take a few weekends to get them dialed in though. the install instructions from mpi are the best i have ever seen, complete with pictures! the best fuel milage i got all season was 10.3, i normaly got around 9.5. i am putting a blow off valve on this summer and i hear that gians you close to 2 mpg??? turbo or s/c he wont be dissapointed! btw at 8lbs of boost the apex is supposed to be at 215 hp. i supposedly ran 210 on the nitrous and the s/c is just a tick faster on top but alot faster getting there.

I have been running the MPI stage 1 s/c this season on my 07 Attack, I believe it was SPEED's s/c at 5-6# boost on 91 and have 5000 miles on it using the boondocker box. It has been a blast and is still pretty fast it runs 130-132 on GPS in 2000'. I am tempted to try the 8# pulleys but worry about gas quality as I have had to run 87 a few times because no availability of 91. It is a personal choice but the ease of installation and no heat issues is a big plus over the turbo.

Thanks for the replies and comments!! sounds like s/c may be best for all round use? adjustable by swapping pullies, Much time involved? (how buried is it) what can you get away with on 91 octane, 8-9 lbs? what kind of pwer does that translate to?

MPI Stage 1 Supercharger here on a 05 RX1 Limited.

Excellent trail set up. I recommend Supercharger for trail use.
Very strong down low and mid range. Always there. Throttle respose seems to be even better tnan my Fuelie Apex.

Not too bad on gas either. About 14 mpg to an Imperial gallon. 11.5 to a Yankee gallon. Not bad for a couple of hundred horse. About a 20% drop in mileage from stock.

7 lbs of boost at Sea Level . 91 pump gas.

Basic HP calculation is add 10 HP to your sleds base HP per LB of boost and subtract 10 hp from total to run the blower on a Supercharger.

My RX1 would be 135 HP stock HP + [7lbs boost x10hp = 70hp] - 10 hp = 195 HP approximately.

Changing pulleys is about a 20 min job, you have to pull the oil tank back and you have access to the pulleys. As far as how much you can run with 91 pump I'm not sure of the limitations but 5-6# all day and multiple WOT runs are no problem.

5 lbs , 4000k , 2 seasons on 2007 rtx sc , love it !

One huge differance in Ontario is noise ,

The sc uses stock exhaust !

Turbo use very small or no mufflers !!

If you want smokin' fast power and still want to safely run pump gas. Consider installing a set of low comp. pistons as part of your build.

I have an MCX HP kit running at 16lbs boost (312 hp.) on pump gas. Trouble free at 4500kms. (WISECO pistons, 2nd fuel pump, 2nd set of injectors, 2 blow off valves)
