Lengthy but worth the read!
Hello all. I had a 2008 Yamaha Nytro with tons of extra's that had an impact to the skid plate. This then caused one of the infamous ridges on the inside of the skid plate to crease my oil filter. I say infamous because Nytro's are known for this issue. Anyone with a stock skid plate should check out the following Post.....
http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php? ... ight=motor
With this crease in my oil filter, there was a loss of "oil Pressure" which caused the crank bearing to fail. This caused the connecting rod to blow through the bottom of my motor. I then contacted Progressive Insurance as they were my insurance company. They had me bring the Nytro to a local dealer. I was notified by the dealership that the Insurance company had notified them not to touch the sled untill they get there. When the adjuster had arrived, he told the technician to drain the oil. There was 1 quart of clean oil in the machine. When the technician tried to notify the adjuster that there may be a hole in the filter, the adjuster had stated that he wasn't conserned with that at this time and left the dealership. My agent had then called me to tell me that "The motor was found to be full of oil and there was no hole in the filter so they can only assume that this was caused by mechanical failure and will not be covered". Following this conversation I had contacted the dealership to confirm and found out that it was all a lie and that the adjuster didn't even listen to the Yamaha technician. I then called my agent for a 3rd time and informed him of the situation and I told him that this was too much of a coincidence to be a mechanical failure and if it is to inform me on what mechanically fails on a 30,000 mile motor at 3,000 miles. He then recommended a tear down of the motor, notifying me that I will have to pay for the tear down if no evidence is found that it was due to oil loss. I agreed. The tear down was completed and no further evidence was found in the top end of the motor of oil loss. I was then contacted again by Progressive and told that they think that this was due to mechanical failure, which still made no sense to me???? I then cotacted Yamaha and explained my scenario. They put me through to a Regional Technician for Yamaha Motor Corp. He had informed me that if oil pressure loss caused this failure, I would see little or no indication in the top end of the motor and that a connecting rod is usually the first to fail. I then had Progressive contact Yamaha for them to say that this was due to oil pressure loss. After 3 weeks of B.S. I finally found the answer and proved my own case. I recommend that anyone who uses Progressive Insurance for their snowmobiles to find a different agency! If I was a just some schmuck, they would have taken me to the cleaners in week one of this claim and I would be out $6,000.00. This makes me realize how many people get screwed every day by Insurance Companies!

Nice job of persistence. I recently picked up an 08 nytro and got a quote from progressive, they were 3 times as much as state farm. $924 a year progressive vs. $ 321 a year state farm, same exact coverage. Yep, "Flo" has a nice ad campaign and that's about it. Glad things worked out for ya 00-nuke.

I use AAA and saved $345.00 a year, and they have it in a 600CC class.
Also I have hear this about Progressive.
PROGRESSIVE AUTO INSURANCE
You know their TV commercials, the ones featuring the ditsy actress all dressed in white. What you might not know is that the Chairman of Progressive is Peter Lewis, one of the major funders of leftist causes in America .
Between 2001 and 2003, Lewis funneled $15 million to the ACLU, the group most responsible for destroying what's left of Americas Judeo-Christian heritage.
Lewis also gave $12.5 million to MoveOn.org and American Coming Together, two key propaganda arms of the socialist left.
His funding for these groups was conditional on matching contributions from George Soros, the America-hating socialist who is the chief financier of the Obama political machine.
Lewis made a fortune as a result of capitalism, but now finances a progressive movement that threatens to destroy the American free enterprise system that is targeting television shows on Fox News.
Peter Lewis is making a fortune off of conservative Americans (who buy his auto insurance) that he applies to dismantle the very system that made him wealthy. He's banking on no one finding out who he is, so, STOP buying Progressive Insurance and pass this information on to all your friends.

Hey thanks for the heads up on this. Thats why this site is great! I had a 97 vmax 700 that started on fire from a bad reed. I called state farm and they were there next day. The sled was a total loss. They didn't question me, they didn't even try to duck the situation. They looked at it for about 30 seconds, and cut me a check for $550 more than I paid for it.

I'm currently looking for a new insurance company. Thanks for the recommendation!

Progressive is the worst on claims.
I have had great luck with Allstate. 1 sled totaled and 1 other claim for about $1200 and they did not raise my rates. Can't complain about that!

Bring up there web site, and do a agent finder for your area. They saved me $1500 a year on my combined insurance( house, auto, toys) over General Causulty. I now have better coverage for less money,I kick myself for not looking earlier.
Yooper1..... I was told if it has a vin # it wont be covered under a homeowners policy.
