Are you kidding look at the stats vs. othe 500 liquid sleds the phazer is lighter than a sabercat 500 and that is 80 hp. It is about the same weight as an F5 and that is a pull rope 2-stroke without rider forward. Look at the Polaris FS it is a 80hp 4-stroke and weighs at least 120lbs more. Check out a Phazer at a show you will be amazed at how light they are......
At the show in MI they said full of gas and ready to ride the Phazer is the lightest liquid cooled sled on the market something like 25 lbs lighter than an F5 That is awesome for a 4-stroker.

Actually, the FS is about 60 hp. It basically replaced the old Polaris Frontier 785 twin 4-stroke.DELTABOX said:Look at the Polaris FS it is a 80hp 4-stroke and weighs at least 120lbs more.

That comparison is more of an apples to apples comparison. Coldone, light weight comes with penalties. Yes, I know my Yamaha is heavier than a Rev, but I also do not have the problems they do with their chassis up here.
I think this Phazer is a breakthrough, but personally, I cannot wait like others for a 100-125HP Phazer...Exciter II?
I will order a multi-purpose Phazer along with a turbo next year when they come out. Then it will be work and play all day long.

I am impressed with the listed weight of the FIRST YEAR Phazer, but with that being said, seeing them in person Yamaha left many areas is improve those weight numbers. First the frame work holding the seat in place is made from steel, and it looks like a fairly large piece. The front bulkhead is steel, the a-arms are steel, the boot holds are steel, and I'm sure there are many other areas not visible. My point is they will contiue to improve on this line, just like the RX-1 to the Apex has evolved.RX-Eskimo said:That comparison is more of an apples to apples comparison. Most likely they went with steel to keep the cost down. Im sure they could have made it a lot lighter, look at how light Yamaha's sport quads are (350-400 pounds).
Phazer Wieght
The Phazer is the lightest wieght liquid cooled sled made!!!! I don't know what your complaining about, the Phazer is lighter than an Arctic Cat F5, Polaris FS and the Ski-Doo MXZ 500 SS. Its even 23 pounds lighter then a 2000 Phazer and has 27 more horsepower. Would you really want a fan cooled two stroke kids sled like the Freestyle, no way! The Phazer is the total package no matter if your a kid or Jimmy Blaze! Look at Arctic Cats first real attempt into the four stroke market, the Jaguar Z1 weighs 575 lbs verses the Phazer at 454 lbs, the 3 cylinder Nytro at 533lbs and the the four cylinder Apex RTX at 542lbs all of which cost less then the $10,499 Arctic Cat!!! Yamaha is way a head of the competition in weight and in price.![Yrules :yam: :yam:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/yrules.gif)

First year Yamaha at 450lbs and you complain? The RX-1 Mountain was 600lbs dry first year, the 05 RX1 was near 560 dry.
Next year i bet the phazer will be 440lbs, then just keep dropping. Just give it time. For the non-top-speed rider, the phazer will be great. It has a crappy approach angle, but you dont need a good one for the trail.
Yamaha just wanted to spread their market and they were missing a 500 sled. this filled that spot with a 450lb sled and there are complaints?

Even the electrical system will add some weight using better magnets and more coiling to give you the extra watts needed for todays sleds. Yamaha wanted to make sure there was more than enough power to run everything no problems so they dont have another hand warmer issue. Electric starter would add 10 to 15 lbs versus a recoil setup. Reverse adds weight also but is a must on a sled like this. More robust frame so it does not buckle on high jumps means more weight. Antifreeze adds more weight. Better quality bearings and bushings along with the grease zerts also adds weight but the quality goes way up. What your buying is quality and quality equals more weight usually. Titanium could be used but would be to pricey.

Just a couple of things about the phazer that i got to ride......
Electric selonoid for reverse
Final spring configuration not finalized
Fuel mapping not finalized
Finish not finalized
Seat will have more foam
Lightest "ready to ride" weight in its class.....closet was within 19lbs...F5 if i remember correctly....Doo was 26lbs
until you actually ride this sled, dont knock it. From the pull it has you would think it has more then 80 hp....this is going to be a great corner to corner trail sled. Your buddies will have a tough time staying up with you.
This is just the start, i bet you will see something in this chassis style (or close to this style) with larger displacement within 2 years.
Ski doo revolutionized the rider forwrd design, i think Yamaha is going to take it even further.

for all the pepole complaining about the phaser you could always open your own small snowmobile company and build sleds to compete with yamaha and tell them you know how to do it right and how wrong they are for building sleds the way they do.there are alot of small specalized sled companies out there become one of them and put your money where your critisims are.if you can do it better than them prove it or go to work for yamaha i am sure they would jump at the chance to hire an expert to help them build a better sled if you don't like the phaser don't buy it go buy a doo or a poo or a oughtto crap andstop the pissy #*$&@ whineing if i wanted to here pissing and moaning i would listen to my girlfriend when she talks if you can build it better do it and stop whineing
