walked to the dealer today to pick up my fixed sled after the roll. i looked at the handlebars after he put it on the trailer and was like WOAHHH! did you put the 05 Bars on?!

He told me our 04 bars are adjustable. Who knew about this and didnt tell us? When you pull up the covering on them from the bottom, there are 2 bolts. he said loosen them and push the bars forward! They look a LOT taller. they look like the 05 bars.

Saturday ill find out how much of a difference moving the bars does in the powder. How did i not know about this?

He forgot to tell you, you have to drill out the rivet that restricts the bars from going forward. This way you will be able to get those bars forward a lot more.

oh thats not good. they are brand new handlebars since the other ones were damaged in the roll.

guess i WONT be adjusting mine soon

Mine is an 03, I couldn't stand the stock location, hitting me in the gut on hard turns, or not being able to reach the throttle on close right turns, I just loosened the bolts and gave a medium to hard push and they rolled forward, there was a snap, which I assume was the rivet and keeper, no problems, I sure like it better that way. Cant Wait to ride it this year with the riser.

Mountain Max, Mtn. Viper, RX1 mtn. are all the same. Just loosen the handle bar bolts till the bars can be moved with slight effort, push forward till they stop, then give a hard push and the stop tab on the bars breaks off. Adjust bars, tighten bolts and enjoy.

I did the same thing on my 03. I have a 1" riser now too and it seems about right.
I ordered an 05 seat which I haven't put on yet so I was worried about sitting to high. So, I ordered the 05 RX-1 Mountain handlebars to go with it just in case. They were only $29 too. I was shocked they were so cheap!
I was sitting on an f7 today. I wonder if anyone has tried those bars on an RX-1M. They seem to be a real nice handle bar?

Frostbite,

With the 05 bar, your handlebar will be lower, cause they use a 3 inch riser, they are shorter than 04 and 03, but more rigid. Mine when i pull hard, they bend a bit.

i put a 2 inch riser with my 04 and i push the bar more straight than the bad stock position. Very cool when standing up, best combo between sit and stand-up. But i can't see my :moon: speedometer, and in my mirror. I'm constraint to stop when i want to put make-up :drink: . With two folding mirror, it's a chick sled. :D

Thanks Tundra, Does a 2" riser fit with the stock throttle cable on the 03-04 handlebar or did you have to go to a longer one? I was going to order a longer cable but thought I'd wait to see if I really need it.
I ride trails more than I care to admit so I really like seeing my gauges. The idea of covering them denys any practical purpose and at some point mounting the gauge pod in the handlebar pad makes sense (like I did on my MSRX with my EGTs).

I put a 2" riser on my 03 RX1 Mountain, and used the stock cable with no problems.

for me, it does'nt fit, it was always out of the throtle lever, even with bar push forward. For the price and the conveniance, i buy a new from yamaha, and it's real cheap, MPI one was more spendy. It's 3 inch longer
