I got to see a rip saw with 192 , 1.325s the guy had the new tall stud nuts on some and the regular ones on some of the others.I was amazed to see the damage to most of the regulars. some bent some missing. the tall nut ones looked unhurt! I'll be buying these next time. Never had much problem with the shorter tracks, but it sure showed me something on these tall lugs of today!

If you go back to the previous page, you will see a picture of my install of studs. I used the taller nuts and not one of my studs have bent. I also used woody's angled backers.

I have 144 1.375 Stud Boys in a 2-4-2 pattern. I have ran unstudded for 25 years before I installed studs on my '05 RX-1 this season. I will never again go back running unstudded. We mostly ride on icy rivers and lakes and when studded I feel safe. I don't care about braking a dozen of studs or a heat exchanger every now and then if I'm riding safe and not risking my life every time I want to go fast. Stud your track when your riding condition is mostly icy or when you don't feel safe riding in icy condition. When riding on ice - I like beeing able to stop immediately when I hit the breaks, and the added traction is nice when you put the pedal to the metal. 
I'm going to put in 48 more studs when we are done with the turbo install. My '03 RX-1 are gonna get studded toooooo, 144 is going in this season.

I Have 2 05 Warriors. Studded one 108 down the middle. Went upstate, Saranac Lake, past weekend and rode lakes, and a few trails. Came home and studded the other machine. What a difference in handling on the icy spots. And you can stop! Did not hurt top end. I ran against my other warrior, un-studded, and they finished the same. I did a GPS run on an ice road, 121 on speedo and 108 on gps. Only have 380 miles on the warrior. Studded just for safety!

rage 05, I'm pretty sure they are woodies. All they are is a longer/taller nut that supports the stud better. A regular nut is say 1/4 inch tall, so a long stud gets pulled on hard.the new nut looks like it is close to 3/4 inch tall, so it will not let the tall stud bend over and breack as easy. Looks like an awsome product to me. Once I saw the difference between the two nuts i will never go back to regular ones. at least on tall luged tracks.Honk

2004 Rx-1
I studded with 144 Woody's Gold Diggers (1.325). I used the Woody's Double Diggers and Single backers and studded per their pattern down the center only. I also used the "Big Nuts" they sell. I rode over 700 miles last week and not a problem.
In fact, except for a few scratches on the cross member in the tunnel by the behind the rear heat shield, I don't see why studding this sled would be a problem. I do have the suspension set really stiff and the track tension at factory specs so I can avoid slap in the tunnel at the exhaust heat shield.
I had a Viper with the .92 track and 1 inch studs. I checked the clearance from tip of stud to front heat exchanger on the Viper and there is way less clearance than on the Rx-1, I don't know why all dealers are telling everyone they can't be studded.

Had 120 Woody 1.325 Signature Series down the middle. Had to remove 24 closer to the center of the track because the back-plate of the stud was hitting the top of the shock. [ Now just the track rubs against shock with weigh on, dealer says normal] Other then that no problems yet. Always had studs.

2004 Warrior: 108 1.375's installed in center belt only when sled was brand new. Didn't consider not studding and wonder if the less than normal hyfax life and overheating issues on this sled would be even worse WITHOUT studs?

Have 192 studs in 04 RX1 ER. No undercarriage damage whatsoever, however, I have kept the track tight, adjusted it 3 or 4 times in the first 700 miles. Riding style is moderate, don't "pound" it at all over nasty bumps...lots of high speed on flat land or ice.
