I would dare to say that blistering on the inside of the track from rubbing the shop cannot be called normal, especially on a $10,000 sled.

Great job allen for coming up with some solutions for this problem.

Are you guys seeing issues with any other sled besides the 06' RTX and possibly the ER. I was under the impression that it was only this model because the GT has the ohlins shock and has a smaller mounting eye. The attack rear is totally different and is not a problem. I noticed Nate chiming in But was not aware of problems with the GT.

If you ask yamaha there is no problem at all. :o|

It affects the 121" Monoshock skids. Some have been fortunate not to experience it, but several have!

I saw a rub line on the inside of our 2007 RTX (Proactive suspension) as well.

This was on the new FX Nytro at the 2008 unveiling. :drink:

Srxspec, so Yamaha will keep you going with the anti-rub kits for those as well?!

No, they have a plastic roller on each side of the shock (the white that you see in the pic) on the FX Nytro.

Oops, didn't catch that, thanks!

If you suck the limiter strap up one notch from factory, the rubbing should stop.............
As far as nylon goes, I don't believe there needs to be ANY moving parts.
A flat plate that would bolt on to the upper shock mount with a 1/8" thick piece of delrin or nylon about 2" square would do the trick.

Care to explain exactly what adjusting the strap one notch changes as a far as the track-rubbing issue?

By doing that simple change is enough to keep it from rubbing?

My 07 RTX's track rubs the shock(s) also. There are a few small chunks of rubber torn out of the track along the center.

I only have minor rubbing on my track, but I noticed a black, oilly coating on my shock, and when I pulled it out there was a flat spot on the top of the shock eye. So at least I got my shock replaced under warranty, but Yamaha replaced it with a "rebuilt" shock. I plan on having my shock(s) revalved this summer, adn I will definately will be adding something to the shock for a little protection.
Nate

Sucking the limiter strap up one hole seems to change the approach angle just enough to flatten the rear angle out so the shock isn't as high as it is when the strap is loose.
It's not much, maybe a 1/16th or so, but it(mine) doesn't rub.

Thanks, easy enough to try!

The bearings aren't in constant contact with the track. We will be updating the design of the rub kit, but it will be more expensive due to machining costs. The new kit will be $70. I will try to take some pictures of the new design installedm, but here is an 3-D model of what it will look like.

TRACKRUBKIT.jpg

Kit Components:
2-Nylon Wheels
4-Roller Bearings
4-Shields to protect all the seals on the bearings
1-Replacement bolt

Just an fYI
I made the same set up you are selling out of nylon wheels with bronze bushings pressed into them.
I am sure you could substitute the bearings you want to use for bronze bushings and cut your costs some.
I have almost 2000 miles on mine with absolutely no issues.
Again this is just an FYI not telling you anything is wrong with your idea.
Good luck!
