Kevin, I can tell you that, but knowing you, you aren't going to believe it until you see for yourself. Quit dragging your feet and get that thing done! There could be riding available within just a few weeks! Wish I could be there to see the grin the first time you get through all the setup smoke and what the sled is really capable of doing comes into focus for the first time....
SJ, you're on regarding the sled swap. You know that, right?

Im all over it.
I got an engineer friend of mine, whom also is an apex owner. We are talking on getting some plates made, and the shims. Possibly getting them made with all the holes for existing rivets etc in it. Then having the correct size spacers made, then will sell as a kit. But I dont know if the rivets are in the same place for all the apex models as the RTX. But none the less it may be done this weekend.

If you go over 144 isn't more or less for racing on a 121-136 sled? Wouldn't it be harder to corner on the trail with 192+, and keep the ski's down after the corner? Just a thought/question. Thanks again guys

I have slydogs....I corner just fine. Generally around here the corners are so blown out the studs arent digging that hard.

I have done both 168 inside and outside and 144 down the middle my 07 RTX. I did not have the best experience with the 168 pattern, but I attribute that to running the extra tall nuts and hitting a sharp rock in the trail. I do a little drag racing on hard pack and the 144 works well, I also have my skid set at max transfer but I like to run little to no ski pressure for trail riding, my personal preference. This set up hooks hard in hard pack and loose conditions, stops the sled well and I don't worry about studs on the outside rows of the track. I just don't think the ripsaws are as durable as some of the tracks in the past I have run with 192 studs and 244 studs. I really like on a 150 hp sled that 144 studs is plenty for an aggressive trail ridder. If you are running ice drags no trail stud set up is worth a nickle in my opinion.

why is everyone going with POlariS skids? i would rather have cats tsl sno pro skid out of a zr over a polaris skid.

regarding the skid change...anything is better than yam in terms of durability and transfer..BUT...you wont necessarily see better slide wear!
as to studding...I will be going back to the outside row...and I belive around 180-190 is the min I want..
for those of you that still dont believe studding in the outside row...
go to scott bergstroms website...
funny thing...is everyone has a different riding style...two guys call themselves agressive trail riders..I've ridden with some guys who want the rear to slide and never hit the brake and others that brake point and shoot...
remember one thing..
the greatest traction and braking effect are studs closest to the rail...period

The Poo skids are an exellent fit, and most consider them to be as good as anything else out there - but - there's no reason not to go with your favorite skid. I'm working with a guy now installing one from his 99 T-cat. Others are going with Doo skids.

sounds like a nice little business...
we sell and install poo skids into yamahas....lol
maybe that would pressure them to be more than a motor builder..

I think Doo might be doing that with their new tripple.... if this motor proves out, all it's going to take is a little horsepower boost. Be willing to bet it's already set to go....
Meanwhile, if the number of people that I'm speaking with is any indication, I think we're going to these Proactive sleds become pretty popular with guys doing suspension conversions.

doo is making the strides with the new motor...
the 1200 makes some nice power with an easy boost job..
but their stuff takes three years to work the bugs out.. and their bugs are usually larger..

My cousin has a Doo with boost coming from Billy Howard. If anyone is curious I will keep people posted on our findings?
SJ,
I 100% agree that the most traction comes from studding near the rail, the wear the skid transfer all the torque to the snow. I am not thrilled with doing that on the ripsaw. Best of luck with your new set up!
