Hi guys, my brother asked me to ask you guys for opinions on his generator he plans to sell. It's a Yamaha EF600. I think it's fairly old? The recoil is barely pulling the rope back in, which sometimes makes it annoying to start. Last fall i gave it one pull and it started right up and ran fine, (i ran some Sea Foam through it) then i shut it off, and drained the float bowl for storage. Along comes my brother, he's going to run some Sea Foam through it for winter storage too (lack of communication, lol) So now it has gas in the float bowl again. For some reason i tried starting it again, and it didn't want to start. It ran great the day before. I didn't put a lot of effort into it because the recoil was so slow, so i just drained the float bowl again and put it away. That's about all the info i have, so any ideas of what it's worth?
Thanks,
Mike.
Thanks,
Mike.

I Googled Yamaha E600, Parts seem to be available for it, including the recoil. Probably yours is a little tired and you could just wind it up a couple of extra turns to get it back. Or maybe it just needs a bit of light oil. For the no start, same as a sled... need air, fuel and spark. Or possibly it's flooded? Also check oil level as some have low oil shutoff. Make sure it's level when cranking.

What do you think it's worth if he sells it?

I have a 6500W 11HP generator I bought a couple of years ago for $550 and could probably still get another. Granted it's a chinese knockoff, it has worked well and use it as a backup for my house and to power my welder.
600W won't even power a coffee maker. I'd say keep it for emergencies. During the ice storm of '98, brought a similar generator to my in-law's and they were able to have a light and watch TV news.

I think that he's buying a bigger, generic brand one? So that's why he's selling this one.

I have a little 600 Watt Honda that starts first pull every time. Whenever we lose power it seems to be at night and cold. I use the little Honda which starts instantly to power a 500 watt Quartz Work Light so I can see to hook up the bigger 4000 watt generator, get it running and switch the house over. Sure beats trying to work with a flashlight. If it starts easy, I'd say keep it.

What can you power with 600 watts??? Is it enough to power the lights and water pump in my camper??? Is it quiet enough for campgrounds??? I might be interested.... I have a 2500 watt homelight that works great but its too loud for the campground and I have another porter cable 7500 watt that powers my house when needed but I'd like a small, quiet, portable generator that would power my camper at the campgrounds.....

Dunno if this can help you but this video shows one running:

For the wattage, take the amperage of your pump and multiply by the voltage (120) and this will give you the maximum wattage it uses. For example, if it says 3A, this would be 360W.

i know these take a crapload of abuse and last really well.
8 hrs on a gallon of gas at peak load. powers tv, vcr/dvd, lights and coffe pot with charging walki talkis and flashlights. also lasts 3000+ hours of use. only drawback is it is 2 stroke. 1st one made 2 years before the cdi let go. the equivelent 4 stroke only gets 1/2 the time on the same gas (we have one). hondas are better but hard to beat this little one.
it is pretty quiet too. my 1993 3500 honda is louder than this little bugger.

my little 1000 watt yami inverter is extremely quiet,it will run 15 hours on 1/4 load on 2.5 litres of gas,i also have the 3000 watt and it will run 22 hours on 1/4 load on 2.3 gallon, both are worth every penny,i have seen soooo many people buy 1 or 2,even 3 cheap generators only to call it quits and go buy a quality machine like the yamaha or honda
