In a world of which sled is lighter and which sled is faster.. will the new APEX engine with its 149 HP and ligher chassis finally end the naysaying about a fourstroke being competitive in a twostroke world?
IN the 2005 spring issue of American snowmobilier the sleds did the following in the 1/4 mile!
Rx-1 ran 13.37 at 98.54 mph with a top speed of 102.35 mph
Fusion ran 13.05 at 100.38 mph with a top speed of 103.83mph
F7 snopro ran 13.29 at 100.86 mph with a top speed of 103.85mph
Mach Z ran 13.32 at 104.36 mph with a top speed of 109.63 mph
Is the new engine and lighter weight of the 2006 APEX going to close the 2.5mph gap between itself and the fusion and F7 and even possibley the Mach Z (even though i know i well tuned Z is extremely fast)
NOTE: from my own experience: I had clutching and an ecp kit added to my 04 warrior and raced my buddies all stock 2005 F7 snopro and only beat him by 2 sled lengths when we both left at the same time.. he had a 60lb weight advantage on me also.. STOCK FOR STOCK i believe he would have sweaped the floor with me..

Re: Will new Motor and Ligher chassis close the 2 stroke gap
I don't know about that. I'll tell you this, the Yamaha will outlast the other two.

Well thats an amsnow test. I've personally only seen F7's in the rearview mirror, never up front.

I only watch the times each sled runs not speeds!
I don't care how fast the speedo says just who gets there first!!!!!!!!
The new faster spinning motor & lighter weight can not hurt, thats for sure!!!!!!!!!!!

Ive raced both an 05 and a 03 F7... the 03 was a standard the 05 was a snowpro..
The 03 couldnt touch me up to 100mph but after that it pulled away hard (it had previously been radared at 119mph)
The 05 is a quick sled... it pulls very hard espeically with the 1.375 track and 1.52 studs! But probobly tops out about the same as my warrior!
I also raced two F6s and they were not a challange at all and they top out completly at about 104mph

The 03 cannot be stock to run 119 on radar. The 05 sno-pro that I have tried and have seen with everybit of clutching and gearing under the sun and the fastest they can get is a 107mph on a gun. The diamond drive killed the top-end. The 04 F7's are a slug, because I can kill them with my 03 800 REV. The 03 F7's are the fastest sled out of all of the F7's made. I'm new too Yamaha, but my 03 800 REV would beat an Rx-1 anytime anywhere from 0-100. Even my buddys 04 f7 beat an 05 Rx-1 with no problem. Not out of the hole, but at a rolling on..... Top end is different issues, because I never raced one past 100mph, because they took so long to catch up and pass me, we would be out of room. Now, I'm not trying to bash Yamaha's since I just ordered my GT. I'm just trying to say that I never had a problem with an Rx-1, but I am doubting how some of you guys say they never had problems with other 2 strokes. The new Mill in the Apex should reverse that gap and the 2 strokes should have lots of problems with the new Apex.

Studded machine to studded machine I've never lost to a rev. No matter the year. Have beat 04 and 05 F-7's.
Only got beat by an 03 F7 (they are fast). Put studs on the RX and clutch it and it pulls like a banshee.

No, I'm saying don't clutch it or gear it. Studding ok. Oh and my REV clutched and gear was even a greater distance. I raced them stock, no clutching just studs and only 120 up the middle on mine and still beat them. If you beat top end, then I may believe that, but 0-100, I have not seen it yet. I've raced about 5 different 03's RX-1's and they were all the same result. My REV was not anything special and was not a (great one), but I know for a fact the RX-1 is not that fast out of the hole and midrange, less midrange than out of the hole. Maybe they are spinning more, I'm not sure.

Every sled is different rotax,i only had my little buddys 04 800ho to compare my 03 rx1 to both sleds 144 studs his was even running chisles on the outside, and his was fast on top,in fact it was one of the fastest revs we had heard of for a stocker, and when i say stocker,i mean just studded,we did play with his clickers but that was it,now i was always quicker off the line, but he would run up to me and creep by me by a couple till 100 than i would roll by him by a couple, now he is 140 or so lbs and i am 245 lbs so i would exspect to lose to him in a drag race, but we both had very good top end runs his gpsed 114 mine 117 best speeds to the best of my memory that was very good speed for the 800 rev in 03/04 oh ya his speedo would read 121 for 114 actual... :ORC

My 800 would top out at 119 on the speedo, but that was with clutching and geared down one tooth. I know everysled is different, but every RX-1 that I raced, I beat with out much effort and was with no clutching and gearing, just studs. I only raced one qith the clutching and gearing combo that I had. Now I did not race any of them flat out on a lake for 3 miles, but for a good 1500 to 2000 ft runs. Truthfully, that was one of the reasons I never really looked at a Rx-1, was because 1, they were slow, 2, they were heavy compared to My REV and 3 they just did not handle at all like I wanted them too and I did not like the feeling that I got when I sat on them. I felt like I was sitting too low and not a comfortable position for riding. Atleast the 03-04's did not handle well, I never drove the 05, but I sat on one and I did not like the feel of it. But, The GT, when I sat on that, it feels alot like my REV, not quite the same, but very close. I'm not here to slam the RX-1, I'm just stating that anyone who says there was not a bit of gap between them is a little too brand bias. But, hopefully, this should be all changed with this new mill.

Rotax,Iride with my buddy that has a new rev 800 every year and last a mack z and I know why you are saying that you can beat an rx-1,but ...
The main reason, and only time, that he could beat my 03 rx-1 was when you race on a SOFT trail because of the heavy front end of the Yamy compare to the light weight front of the rev.As soon as we raced on a hard trail, then it was very ,very close. Both sled studded and I weight 25lbs. more. Also he is a master mechanic for B.R.P. and one hell of a good sled tuner. We ride over 5000kl. a year together But his Mackz ,that's another story.......Hey....waite for meeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!![Tg :tg: :tg:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/tg.gif)

My question was if the new Apex's motor and new chassis was going to close the 2.5mph gap.. NOT whos sled beat an rev or visversa!
For the past two years in the amsnow drags the rx has come in forth place (by a small margin) and usually i believe it was because it was a reverse model unlike the nonreverse models it raced!
I could tell you first hand that you dont want to race your rx-1 against a much lighter two stroke in deap snow because yoiu will loose.. On hard pack the rx is a strong competitor as long as its clutched and studded but stock for stock it will loose some races!

Ok! my view on your question:yes it will close the gap because of two things.... Way better throttle response due to fuel inj. and lighter crank witch will reduce E.T. and second :the new clutch weights that will alloy mutch better ajustments for faster and heavier load on the primary.
Also waiting for my 06 GT.![Div20 ;)! ;)!](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/div20.gif)
