Hey,
Can anyone tell me if the screws that hold the windshield on are the same m6 screws that are used to hold the seat on or are they self tappers or something? I would check myself but the sled is at the dealers. I have a cool idea for a little 'bling' replacement option. (please be the same m6's)

they are not the same as the seat screw, they are self taping style.

I can tell you the screws on the Viper windshield and the plastic grommet are pure garbage. I have been changing them over to Yamaha style.

Aren't they like that way so that if the sled flips over, the windshield will unbuckle itself from the sled itself instead of cracking?I can tell you the screws on the Viper windshield and the plastic grommet are pure garbage. I have been changing them over to Yamaha style.

That would be awesome if that's how they really worked but the screws themselves strip out really easily and some of them don't even hold the windshield inplace

I tried a machine style screw in one of mine and it worked and lasts longer than the self tappers in the stock plastic squares. I believe it was that same size thread. Therefore I believe those will work with new squares. Let us know. Gradually been replacing all the self tappers with real machine screws myself.

Someone would make a decent profit selling a stainless hardware upgrade kit for all SR Vipers. I bet a poll would indicate the number 1 gripe with most owners is the garbage fasteners Cat uses in this sled. I'm looking at you low grade Torx bolts/screws.

Can anyone point me at a good replacement for that plastic dart that holds the corner of the windshield down. One of the cheapo originals decided it didn't want to be there anymore. Thanks

Thanks Tom, I just found some that look like they might work at Advance Auto. That's probably where AC sourced all their cheap fasteners to begin with.
The Viper still make me smile though, 250 miles of rough trail this weekend without a hitch.
