I'd like to hear any real world experiences from anyone who has actually had some time on there STOCK TUNE SideWinders with a reverse angle helix this year.

I'm just wondering if these reverse angle helixs have been living up to the hype of increasing the actual performance of a stock tuned 'Winder or it's a step in the wrong direction.

If anyone would like to chime in and post up your results so far I'd appreciate hearing from you and your experiences so far and what secondary spring you've been using.

It would be interesting to find out if you're running stock or aftermarket weights in the primary also with the reverse angle helix.

Been pretty impressed with mine. I’m running the full TP kit with 33/35 helix. Was running stock tune and hurricane exhaust. Gonna be testing with the stock muffler in MI next week. Extremely responsive and is much faster than my buddies all stock BTX. Playing around with the secondary wrap to see if I gain or lose anything.

Hey VX1R,

I’m running a Reverse 33/35, with the Dalton black/Orange spring set at 3/3, and TD Heavy Duty Rollers on my new 18 RTX. Completely stock primary, and stock tune. Only 417 miles so far, and it ran very well. Was very responsive out of the hole, and super snappy/and smooth. Was seeing 8550-8600 RPM at wide open throttle/top end. Hoping to gain a couple more hundred RPM as the sled continues to break in.

I am going to change the wrap to 6-1 though for my next ride, and give that a try. Dalton says that is where we should wrap that Black /Orange spring at anyway. JoeLTX has same set up and said he likes the 6-1 wrap even better..his top end increased quite a bit he said when he set it at 6-1.

Mine is factory box stock. TP's lubricated glide washers in the primary with the stock spring, rollers and weight's. I have TP's 33/35 billet helix, TP's orange spring set at 3/3, and TP's rollers in the secondary, factory 8JP belt and factory offset. I put 200 miles on the sled last weekend with this setup in poor conditions at varying speeds. Sled worked great, nice smooth engagement, excellent back shift. I didn't check the clutch/ belt temps at all, but when I went over the sled the next day, very little to no belt dust from the 8JP. So with the lack of dust I'm assuming the clutch's and belt temps were fine. I'm leaving for Maine in two weeks so we'll see how she does on a 1,200 to 1,400 mile week!!! Hope this helps.

I'm running 35/39 Helix with full TP kit (primary and secondary-wrapped 2-3.) 1100 miles on sled. Clutches were hotter than stock (too much for my liking, but not boiling. ) 8700 RPM on sustained run.
Last year I ran all TP primary, but stock secondary spring. Was at 8500 RPM. Clutches were warm to the touch (not hot.)
Fuel mileage seems good with this helix. My next adjustments are either going back to stock secondary or less wrap on TP secondary spring and taking out weight on tip.

I have a 35/39 for sale. PM me.

Thanks for the replies. Interesting results posted so far. Four positive comments and two guys looking to sell their reverse angle helix's. :dunno:

Don,
Why do you want to slow the sled down going from a straight 35 to the 33-35? Taking away helix will not make it quicker, but slow it down and it will hurt the mileage too over the straight 35.

You want faster? Put a stock muffler tune in it at the least. I know a guy that can help you out there :flag:, I'm heading out tomorrow to put one in Josh's new Winder for his trip this week to northern WI.

just the muffler mod , and leave all the rest stock ?

Not at all....

A stock muffler tune is a TUNE as stated....(you can flash back to stock MAP in 40 seconds)

in which you use STOCK muffler, so its a baseline setup with ZERO supporting mods. I have heard 225hp? But might be more. This is the best setup for all the guys who want a bit more and not wanting to drop large bucks on a muffler.

I still believe a MODDED muffler is the best bang for buck in conjunction with ANY tune, as you get so so much more HP yet the entire sled is super quiet. Im blown away by the great sound of modded muffler, but still makes PLENTY of power.

;)

So far TD Ecotrail STOCK muffler tune is smooth as butter when wanted AND offers violent acceleration when desired. Not enough miles to speak about top end yet and because my revs are too low. Going to try Powertrail next time on snow to see if that gets my revs up. (TD clutch kit with black teal primary, dalton black orange secondary, stock helix, and empty DTYA-1 - This is too much weight to get the most out of stock or Ecotrail tune.) 1150 miles on OEM belt BTW.
