Trying to decide if I should stay with the standard gold digger compaired to the modified gold digger with the sharpened 45 degree point for trail ridding. A little lake racing with buddies. Has anyone tried the modified gold diggers?

I haven't used the modified Gold Diggers, but I can tell you I have modified and sharpened the Mega-Bites myself by grinding them, although they hook up way-way better on ice or hardpack, they also loose and crush/break the carbide tips from the stud much easier, and don't last nearly as long. Out of 192 studs on my track I didi this on, I needed to replace around 30-40 of them with ruined tips. Only way I'd recommend the sharpened studs is if you do more racing than trail riding on plowed fields or less than really good conditions. They last far longer than just steel studs dont get me wrong, but not anywhere close to just standard studs. Myself I like Mega-Bites best as they last a real long time and have four flats on them to act more like a chisel stud with its flats.

I did not sharpen them again on my new replacement track for trail use, put over 1200 miles on it and studs still look like new compared to using the sharpened carbide studs. Hope this helps.

That’s what I thought so I will stay with regular gold diggers then . 90 percent trail riding.

I recommend triggers if you play on lakes. Modified gold diggers are too fat and don't penetrate the ice like triggers.

Tried those on my 2021 srx and I couldn’t install them tried the 1.085 and the threads wouldn’t come thru the track to install a backer and nut sent them back to woodys

I run 1.325s in my 1", my group all run triggers in their 1" tracks.

hmm must be the longer stud has more threads to go though the plate to get a nut started. I do like the stud profile better

Dealing with crappy conditions more often I would like, over the years I have found the gold diggers to be durable for thousands of miles. They are not the best for drag racing but do hold up. One thing I believe helps longevity is to check the tightness of the fasteners after a few hundred miles and they take a set into the rubber in the track.
