I have a 15 xtx and love it course I have had no problems from it. That said I only put 1500 miles on last year with A smile for every one. If I had some of the problems I have read about on here I would prolly have a different vote. Time will tell I geuss

Cannondale27, I have a little SW fever too right now but I'm holding off till maybe next year. I have the money sitting in an account just for new sled but I never bought one after I sold the viper. May get a new truck if nothing impresses me. I did not mind the viper but yamaha does not seem to fix larger issues very quick or seem to care to much.Which is why I think something maybe going on. The viper has the best ridding position I have ever sat in but the starting, tri-hub and rods etc issues never seem to get fixed. That's why I would say no, not because sled is bad. I'm am hoping it's all cleaned up with SW and maybe the 18 vipers and fix the existing ones abit so I can say I would get one again.

Not a chance! Worst purchase I've ever made! Everything I've owned had been Yamaha til now. Hind sight is always 20/20 but if Yamaha stood by their product to fix the issues and the local dealer wouldn't have been exceptionally shitty I may have a different view. Currently looking at a '07 Apex MTX to get rid of this headache, but it's fun to ride when you're not thinking about what issue lies next.

I would buy again...... This is an easy decision for me. The only trouble I had was with the reverse actuator. Fixed by Yamaha. As I get older top end means less to me now than it did when I was 20, so a few bolt ons (header, can, clutch kit and Evo reflash and I'm happy. I ride with guys that ride new Ski Doos (they aren't without problems) but when we hit a lake none of us was in a hurry like we used to be. I love the 4 stroke and the ride quality on the Viper so no real reason to keep looking.
That being said if the Side Winder had of been available when I bought the Viper I'm not so sure the voice of reason would have won the argument! Being first year for the Side Winder I would be a bit leary as with all first year machines been that route a few times once with the Viper and once with a Polaris Dragon and the dreaded 800 grenade in 2008

I don't think so. Unless something drastically changes in the chassis or suspension.
Don't get me wrong. I think the Viper is a great fun sled and I don't plan on selling it.
I finally got the power/performance to where it should of been from day one by adding clutching, header, can, intake, and Curve skis. Plus I have the Cobra 1.6 ice ripper. The SW is not for me. Don't really need that kind of power. Don't want the extra weight. And then it's price.
If I were to buy a new sled right now it would be the 800 Poo 144 Assault. But I am still leary of going back to a 2 stroke.
But it seems that the newer 800 2 strokes are much improved especially now with electronic oil pumps and directed oil lubrication locations.

I would buy again! If I was interest in a 600 class but the new sw is a game changer for me! Next year viper going up for sale to purchase sw!
My wife absolutely loves her's (zr7000) she wouldn't trade it for anything else.
Both sleds have run flawlessly (the only issue was wife's heated seat that was my fault forgot to unplug when removing seat warranty covered )

Yes, yes, and yes! The first "yes" is because I would buy another Viper in a heart beat. After 2 years and 3,500 miles with my 2015 DX LTX, I am convinced it is the best riding, best performing, and best handling sled I have ever owned, and so far, it has been trouble free. The second and third "yes" are because I actually bought two more vipers for my family this fall! I picked up a used 2014 XTX with 5,500 miles on it (which the dealer assures me were trouble free) for my grandson and a left over 2016 XTX for me. We still have the 2015 in hopes of finally coaxing my wife off her 2013 Vector.

Yes I talked with the dealer about this very thing. I would buy the nicest viper I could find for $7000 and then by the 240 hurricane turbo kit. For $12,000 I would have one sweet trail machine. I have the hurricane 190 kit now. 4000 miles on it, the only trouble was a reverse actuator.

I definitely would!
No major issues...and they were fixed by Yamaha no problem.
Was it what I thought it would be? Yes, because I drove 3 of the prototypes and knew the clutching was not correct...but that is my addiction to figure out a clutch setup to make it rock! And I did!

I bought two so I must like them!!
I would buy one again and drop it off by NOS- Pro again for clutch work.
And can't forget about another EVO stage 4 flash ;-)

It's nice to hear all this mostly positive feedback...makes me think it was a good decision buying one for my wife.

I voted no.
I am sure that subconsiously, the release of the sidewinder weighs heavily in my vote.
For me, the viper is the most comfortable sled i have owned, but it has also been the most problematic sled i have owned.
I have had antifreeze leaks, chaincase leaks, oil tank leaks, hot start problems, cold start problems,
My muffler blew a hole in it, my reverse actuator blew the plastic bottom out of it.
In totally stock form, i could not get the sled to keep up with my riding buddys bone stock 2009 nytro and my other buddies 2010 bone stock skidoo 1200
i ended up purchasing new gears and chain, multiple clutch parts, a muffler, header, airbox mod, and reflash just to stay in the game.
Honestly, if not for my back issues and the fantastic ergos of this sled, it would have been gone long ago and i would have continued to ride my 06 apex.
If the $2000+ i have spent on this turd dont breathe some life into it this season it will be gone and replaced with a sidewinder!

There's some discouraging posts in here.I've been wanting a Viper since 2014 and just got one a couple months ago.I went for my first ride last night and had a smile the whole time.I never got to hold it wide open but it accelerates fast, loved the power and ride and I think its the nicest looking sled on the snow.Hope I don't have any problems

I have to agree, even the mighty sidewinder doesn't have the look of the viper.
