havnt drove vector for 2 weeks since there is like abslutly no snow, went to drive it the other day n it wouldnt idle smooth, and would hang up at 2500 rpm before dropping to 1300. took it into the garage, ripped off carbs, put them back together, but after hearing how so many peoples fuel screws were out of wack i decided to check mine. drilled out the aluminum plugs to get to the screws, (heated them up and turned them out with an easy out) my results #1 .75, #2 3.25, #3 1.75 turns out. set them all at 2 turns out from slightly seated. sled idles better now that it has clean pilots and has way better throttle response. couldnt belive how out of wack the screws were. if you have a sluggish vector, you should check your fuel/air screws.

How did you decide on 2 turns out? I've been thinking about drilling my fuel screw plugs out but haven't ever fully taken the carbs out. A few weeks ago I replaced the 45 pilot jets with 50's to take clean up the low end.

in almost carb related posts on this forum they say 2 turns out, and i stopped in at yamaha last time i was in the city and they said 1.75 -2 turns out.

Ok, thanks. Funny how they have the fuel screws all over the place from the factory and plugged, all for emissions I presume.

i'm guessin emissions also. after like 10 miles of driving check your plugs to see if your engines okay with the change. to remove the plugs on the screw their green loctited in. so i drilled and used a #1 extractor along with bout 10 seconds of heat from a butane pocket torch. came out easy. drill very slow so you dont bugger up the screw

How in the hell do you just check your spark plugs on a 2008 Vector? Man that is like pulling half the sled apart! I've had mine stripped down but don't want to ever have to pull the plugs.

man if you do the carbs your 5 inches away from the sparkplugs haha. do you take the headlight off by taking the mount off with the 4 10mm bolts instead of the 2 10mm bolts? i take the whole headlight assemby off. its only 4 bolts and 2 wires. then you have access to fully remove carbs (airbox to carb clamps is 4mm allen wrench, carbs to engine is 3mm allen wrench).

Oh I know, it is just you said after 10 miles of driving to check the plugs, and man that isn't any type of trail side job. But you can probably ride from your door so you have a different perspective than I do. I have to trailer for 3 hours minimum to ride. So I can't just blast around for 10 miles and then come home.

well then your in a pickle. haha i can have carbs off in 15 minutes. i live on a farm so its a bit different. and yes doing plugs is a trailside thing when your 10 year old brother touches the thottle when the sled isnt warmed up

It's not that they are "all over the place" by mistake, it's that the settings were done with an EGA at the factory to make the sled EPA compliant. The anti-tamper plugs were there for that reason. Street motorcycles have had anti-tamper devices guarding their pilot screws since the late 70s.

same as a new chainsaw or weedeater... no adjustment on them unless you have the special fancy tools
