I'm considering ordering a 2018 X-TX 1.75. I have installed Ice Ripper tracks on all of the short Apex sleds and liked them. Do the 1.75 models come with tunnel protectors? Are there any differences in the skid or tunnel with the 1.75 model?

Yes they come with tunnel protectors, the xtx will have a 146" track, but seems to turn good and not push to bad, great hook up and better in the deep snow, I don't know if anyone has studded the 1.75 but somebody will chime in if they did, you also will have the new updated shock on the single shot suspension which from reviews is working out great and lots of adjustments for your weight, I don't think you will have the top end of a shorty with the 1.75 lug but way better hook up, your buddies will not want to travel to close behind you either with the 1.75. hope this helps.

I actually want to replace the 1.75 track with the Ice Attak (1.22). Most of our riding is touring and are looking for the best track for cruising without studs. Thanks for your input, excited about the X-TX for next year.

That would be a better track for sure for touring on groomed trails, the trails here in my area are not groomed so the 1.75 suits me better plus you will find the xtx bridges the bumps way better than a shorty, I went with DuPont slides and 135mm upgraded wheels on mine plus ice scratchers just in case, Yamaha skids like to eat slides but some reports say the single shot suspension are not having any problems with slide wear, I just didn't want to take any chances with past experience with Yamaha skids, you will love your xtx.

my 17 xtx 1.75le has tunnel protectors, and i dont think you can use studs

My only thought on the 1.75 XTX is the how much do the smaller drives slow the top end! By the Fiche their gearing is the same so the smaller drivers would change the overall gearing same as putting a smaller bottom drive gear in. I have a chance at a left over but don't want the 1.75, would probably go to a 1.22 ice ripper, there is a 1.6 ice cobra but I don't want the taller lug! Traction has never been an issue for me! One option would be to up the bottom gear a tooth or two to get it back to same overall gearing as the 1.25. Changing the drivers is another option as the track needs to come out anyway! Just wondering if anyone has put the smaller lug track on and what the difference was.

The 2017 fiche shows the 7 tooth sprocket for the 1.75 lug and the 8 tooth sprocket for the 1.22 track. I haven't checked the fiche yet to see if the gears are the same. The pitch is 2.86 on both tracks. I'm leaning to change the 1.75 track over to the 1.22 Ice Attack with the 8 tooth sprockets. Assuming the 2018's are the same as the 2017's. I would have to think they will be the same.

The 1.75 track will be a problem for me too on WI hardpack and plowed roads to trails. I really wonder why Yamaha went with the 1.75 since Apex XTX is NOT an off trail sled? Scratchers will not help in these conditions.

I have a 2016 XTX 1.75. It is AWESOME in the lake effect snow belts of the U.P., but as others have stated, when you get into the WI hard packed trails, plowed roads, icy lakes etc it loses its luster quickly. The 1.25 XTX with the 8 tooth drivers (which they don't offer for 2018) would be the best suited for all Midwestern riding conditions.
