So how many of the lugs on the xtx with tipped rails are really on the snow compared to the 128 ?

I rode both at the demo's back in 2011 before I bought mine and I thought the 128 didn't get enough bite. Seemed loose in the corners and didn't get a bit in some snow situations on the trail. XTX seemed to get a better bite, plus better off trail. I have been pleased with all my XTX's, Just my 2-cents

I see a lot of Se's and XTX Apex's for sale and I am wondering why I am not seeing any Standard Apex's tells me a lot about what people think about them. I find the XTX stiff but I didn't have a standard Apex to compare too. I am personally looking for a 128 Apex since I think the stiffness, the suspension type and the extra weight are deterrents for me. Currently ride a 121 with studs and I have no traction issues at all. Think a 128 with same amount of studs will be plenty and a better overall ride for trail riding for me.

I test rode the XTX, SE and std. when they came out. I thought the std. one rode the best. The XTX obviously hooked better without studs but yes adding studs would help the 128 on the trails. I took a 2011 XTX for a spin this year in Michigan but never got the thing in the twisty trails to see how it handled that. If you strictly run trails a 128 should do just fine. The problem is if you buy an XTX for the purpose of doing some off trail adventures IMHO you still need to change out the track for a better off trail use such as a Cobra . The Ripsaw is worthless in loose snow. Not sure why Yamaha didn't at least put the newer Ripsaw II on the 2014 and 2015 Apex XTX's. Another thing to keep in mind is the XTX uses the CK dual shock rear skid which many say rides stiffer and is not as plush as the mono skid.
This site seems to be sharing less AND less information...........sad

I have both 11 xtx and se apex. I think the xtx is by far better for all around riding. traction is better, strait line tracking is better I have the star suspension mod and my suspension reacts better now than the se. the se falls short in overall handling to the apex attack with a mega float. the xtx has no problem in the turns at all and will rail any corner as well as the 128 even at crazy speed. I have tuner skis on both with 10 carbide for both runners. sleds will turn on a dime and give you change!! set up is key for these sleds to perform and with that said the 144 wins hands down in handling, stability and feel on any trail . best mod for a 128 se is to make it 136. best mod for xtx is the star suspension link with re valve. I have a 07 attack with mega float that has better suspension feel than both 2011's. biggest let down on the 11's is power output. the 2007 attack out performs the 11 Se and the 11 xtx. very disappointed with top end even mid range pull feels stronger on the 2007. I have owned over 20 Yamaha sleds and can honestly say the 2011's let me down the most in power from what I expected. they were suppose to be a bit better than the 06-10 apex but for some reason that's not the case.

I guess this part threw me. I have consistently heard the newer Apex models with the Exup exhaust being stronger than the previous ones. Do you have any clutching done to any of these machines?

I think you need to check the EXUP, or something. We have had an 11, and have a 12 and 13, and an 07 attak. The newer ones will eat the attak in mid range, have never checked the top end, but I dont feel like the newer sleds have less of anything. Lots of talk about EXUP not opening properly on some sleds.

I took a 2011 XTX for some drag runs this winter in Michigan and it was quite fast......much faster than my stock '07 Attak for now.....until I get this thing of mine clutched
and setup.
and setup.

both 2011's have stock clutching. both run right out and hold shift rpm where it should. and both get beat on a long strait by every new 800. that has yet to happen with the 07 attack. I think the exup is more hype than anything. the only thing that keeps my girlfriend closer to the 800's with the SE is she is 120 lbs. but my fat #*$&@ on the attack will still beat her on her SE or my XTX. I know what each of these sleds will do without guessing. just got back from 3 full days of riding in Maine and 900 miles of seat time where many times I had the throttle to the handle bar for very long distance. I am not saying these sleds are extremely slow just slower than any thing else. there were places where trail conditions were mint smooth as glass and xtx would never see past 105mph on the gauge for a few miles. the SE was the same. I could not keep up with a Polaris pro R 800 ski doo 800 etec or a 13 turbo cat with 141 track. I will check the exup on both machines this weekend since I am taking a weekend off and I pray I find adjustments to be really off. If the exup is correct on both sleds then I have over $20,000 in 2 stones.

All I know is that is not a normal story I hear on the new ones. One thing a few have said though is the 2012's and 13's are faster than the 2011's. Not sure if there is any stock in that or not.
One thing though, my buddies 2008 40 yr. LTX is quite fast. I know for a fact it has to do with his clutch kit. Probably the best one out there IMHO. It's the Sheeet!!

what is different on the 12 and 13 from the 11's besides the decals?? it figures the only year without the magic HP is the one I have.

11 and up all the same, and I bet your exup is fine, checked mine early this because I was having poor mpg. after a bunch of bull to get to the exup there was nothing wrong with it. Last year when I was on a lake that had been plowed down for racing I could get 116 mph on the speedo, this year on just "trail packed" lakes I could only see it flicker from 99-101 mph. I have never rode a older ape but I too feel the exup is a joke, have seen dyno runs where it has no more power than the old ones. It is supposed to be 160 but I believe its the same 150 as the older ones but with maybe just a broader power range.
