Hey guys, looking for some help here...trying to decide between a viper xtx or Mtx. I would say 75% of my riding is off trail UP and the rest trail riding northern WI. I'm 250 lbs plus and 6'3", so throwing the little extra length around on the trail doesn't bother me much, especially coming off an attak. I am more concerned about having the extra track off trail to lug my heavy a** around. I know the front end is narrower, but I wouldn't be opposed to swapping it out for the xtx front end. What I'm not sure about is the difference in the skids. I know the xtx is uncoupled anyway, just curious how much is diff in the skids. The other issue I'm concerned about is keeping the Mtx cool on the trail with the taller track. I'm also thinking mpi 190 turbo...maybe this will make the 141 get around like a stock 153??

Anything else I should be concerned w coming off vectors and Apex's??

Thanks in advance from the viper newbie!!

There is a video review on this sled by one of the big snowmobile magazines, they had the turbo version and liked it. Google it and you should find it easily. It has the new mountain style spindles that cut thru the snow better, big lugs, narrower front end and the new mountain skis. The front end geometry is different too because of the narrower stance. For the amount of snow we get in the midwest compared to the Rockies, I would think this sled would be a great choice.

Hmm...I didn't even scroll down far enough in the mountain sleds to see that one! So there's my 2.25" track stock then. I think the 40-42" adjustable front end would be ideal also. So, what's going to make this thing handle different than the xtx on the trail?

Hi 4strokelover87 - I will chime in if I may....

I have the XTX Viper and purchased a set of rails to extend the XTX from 141 to 153. The Cat 153 rails bolt right on place and use all of the same components that the XTX uses. Got a 2.25 Power Claw 153 track from Stingray and had that one for a better part of the year last season. No tunnel extension, but you have to change your flap somewhat to clear the 153 if you go this route. Mounted the suspension in the lowest holes and it worked great! The un-coupled suspension rides like a cloud on and off-trail. Can stand the sled up at anytime and yet rail the trails like I used to on my Attak. If I was to purchase another sled, it would be the XTX without a doubt for me and switch off between tracks. Never have I had a sled that was so versatile and so much fun! This sled is by far my favorite sled ever!

Now, off-trail was a blast with the 153 and I will be putting it back on later this season to ride off-trail which I usually do 85% of the time now, but still like to ride trail. Trail riding, no issues as long as you have good snow, which seemed to be good. I do have ice scratchers just in case. Off-tail I never really noticed the XTX front end as there was always so much snow it would carve like no tomorrow. Have I ridden a narrowed front end? Yes, quite a few and tho you can ride the trail, I like to corner hard and the only reason I would have the narrow front end is to go between trees that are closer....that would be my only reason to have it.

Going to be switching over familyman's Viper over to a 2.25 on his XTX Viper, but he is keeping his 141.

For 2015 the XTX LE came with the 40 inch front end and the 2.25 track. For 2016 that model is now called MTX 141 but pretty much the same sled other then it gets the new spindles. I can tell you that it gets around off trail VERY good without a turbo. With a turbo the fun factor goes way up, I drove it both ways but hooked on the turbo now, Lots of fun! As far as on the trail I can keep up with my regular XTX's, LTX buddies just fine but the sled is happiest in the powder with that track. Cooling has never been a issue, sometimes drop the strachers if its really hard packed to keep the slides happy but that's not often. If your playing in the back county go with some wide skis, I run Slydog 8 inch and have excellent handling on and off trail and a few of my buddies just switched to Slydogs to.

I will add to NOS-PRO. If you are going turbo. I ran all last year with 6# boost xtx 1.6 track. Great on and off trail. I dont think i would go 2 1/4 track if on trail at all. as far as front end its good wide, easy to carve.

My 2014 xtx we will be switching to a 153 x 2.25 for our trip to Colorado.... on my sons 2015 mtx he got a sponsorship with ZBROZ and we will be switching his upper control arms to there billet ones with 2016 spindles and ball joints....X1 shocks all the way around it should be a Awesome ride this year with the 2.6 x 153 track

I use my xtx le off trail in some very deep powder as well as trail riding.
It's very flickable in the pow and is perfect on trail as well.
I've never had a issue with the 2.25 Even with 300 km days of trail riding.
I use scratchers when needed, but its not often.
I came from a nytro mtx and must say this sled is easier to get around off trail but do miss the flotation of the 153.
I am switching to sly dog 7'' this year as I found the cat skis on my xtx didn't do much for floatation.
The xtx with the 2.25 is very close to the perfect all around sled.

This is an awesome write up and video! Thank you! I am starting to lean towards this sled...seems to have more of the off trail features I'm looking for.

I'm thinking the Mtx with the 42" front end is only an inch narrower than the xtx, and other than my wife who really notices an inch?? Lol!! but I have the option of going down to 40" if I want to, thinking this is the way I'm leaning...also have the 2.25" track out of the box so there's a $600 plus!! ;-)

Sounds like an awesome sled! I was eyeing that model too but went with an xtx. I see you are in east central Illinois. I'm in Urbana where are you?

It's in my garage in Urbana. Feel free to come look at it. Im available Friday after 5 and all day Sunday. Pm me and I'll give you my details.
