Yammerhead, Id like to see Yamaha build a sled that is atleast most everything to somebody!
"Trail cruising" is as close as they get. They have to come up with a sled that has a wider range of ability.

You guys kill me, although you have one of the best all around snowmobiles to date you continue to flog the manufacturer. You all want light weight more power better handling which is great but when the manufacturers bump the price to alot for all the changes you guys cry foul. You will be hard pressed to find another manufacturer with the portlolio Yamaha has on reliability, cost of op and re sale value, that said we are all able to choose our own paths in this snowmobile lifestyle so if you choose another path to ride down, don't dirty my part of the path. The great thing about Yamaha is if you don't like what you see you have the option to go out and find something else.So for all you pre mature comment makers
STFU!
Lets wait and see what they bring to the table before making fools of ourselves.

As somone who has worked on product development for several OEMs (Yamaha included, but not snowmobiles) I would be shocked if they were testing a new platform while launching a current one. Typically you would be quoting new tooling 18 months to two years before launch date and all the prototypes and de-bugging has to happen in between plus a production ramp-up. Their engineering staff is probably stretched pretty thin right now too.

lots of crying going on. we need new skis, we need warmer hands, etc. the new sled has them and still no ones happy. as for weight its 100 lbs lighter than that fat turbo turd cat, but thats not enough either, we want it built out of tupperware and aluminum foil like a doo so we can buy all the required braces from the aftermarket. not enough horsepower, how can you tell from a picture? the mach z from 05 to 07 had plenty of power and was so popular they couldent keep up on production-not. all the people crying about crap like plastics and headlites and threatening to jump ship, go ahead, its your right to buy whatever you want, just quit crying and do it, yamaha will still continue on without you. no company will ever build the perfect sled for everyone, period.

Fair enough. They absolutely have room for improvement and it seems like suspension is where they stuggle the most.
Here's something to think about though. Your XTX is the first Yam 4 stroke that really comes close to what I want. I don't buy new and I have been watching for leftovers or used XTX's. There aren't any at the dealerships and any used one's resale has been very strong. Unfortunate for a cheapskate like me, but it does show there is a strong demand for the XTX's.

you couldnt of said it any better,i 100% agree with you,at this time of year, every year,ty becomes like dootalk for a few weeks until the dust settles and everybody calms down, also, why do we need more power, most apex are already as fast or faster than the turbo cat, plus,if you put a turbo cat besides an apex, the built quality on the yam is leap years ahead,my 2 centgrader said:lots of crying going on. we need new skis, we need warmer hands, etc. the new sled has them and still no ones happy. as for weight its 100 lbs lighter than that fat turbo turd cat, but thats not enough either, we want it built out of tupperware and aluminum foil like a doo so we can buy all the required braces from the aftermarket. not enough horsepower, how can you tell from a picture? the mach z from 05 to 07 had plenty of power and was so popular they couldent keep up on production-not. all the people crying about crap like plastics and headlites and threatening to jump ship, go ahead, its your right to buy whatever you want, just quit crying and do it, yamaha will still continue on without you. no company will ever build the perfect sled for everyone, period.

I just cant believe how many people talk crap when they have absolutely no clue what they are talking about.
People think they know what they want, but really they do not in most cases. OEM's make a product for right in the middle of the pack. Anything that can be personally changed via aftermarket, they tend to leave alone. Carbides are one that comes from personal preference as an example.
I am just sick of people complaining about nothing. We really have no clue what is coming besides YEPS, and we knew that was coming two years ago, or at least I did. At the end of the day if you don't like it, dont buy it and cry about it. Only way manufacturers get it it is when people stop buying it. Business is all about stealing market share. These companies are not dumb. They know what they can do and get away with to keep people coming.
I love hearing the crap about YEPS. I read one place where a person was bashing it saying that it was going to add all this weight to a machine. Then go on to say it would weigh more wet cause of the fluid. FLuid? They had no clue how EPS actually was. These systems weigh 2-3 pounds. They are electric power assists, they do not steer for you, if they ever fail it is just like good old regular steering, they wont cause you to steer into the trees if a problem occurs. What it will do is make a long day seem shorter, make steering much easier, allow you to drive your machine faster; safer. Some people have know clue what YEPS is going to do for them. I will tell you this, after driving a sled with YEPS, you will never go back to a non EPS machine. It is that good.

How about getting rid of the Jackshaft and do a direct drive and... get rid of that "Rube Goldberg "parking brake affair that must weigh 10 pounds and will set your sled on fire if you forget to release it.

The resale is incredibly strong up here. I sold my XTX this year for 9500. People were calling me and trying to get me to give it away left and right. I held strong, and when the new snow flew I did not have to drop the price at all cause everyone was asking a grand more or better. Closest offer I had over the summer was 8500 and the rest were lower.
These sleds are good platforms to build off of.

Apparently bombardier (ski-doo /can-am) has a recall on their power-steering equiped atvs. Their version of eps "does make you steer into trees." The yamaha and honda versions seem bullet proof.

a "marketing company" = probably, ok, yes
a "Sales" company = u betcha
YEPS is interesting for sure, I would imagine it would make the sled feel tons lighter.
now.....seriously, fire the moron who has been doing the shock calibration. Why have decent quality shocks with pinto damping specs.

dirkdiggler said:Yamaha has become better at Marketing then it has at building industry leading snowmobiles. Yes Yamaha offers the best motor in the industry. But the chassis, Suspension, Handling and Power are far from the best.
I know we haven't gotten the final specs on the new Yamaha yet. Unless this version of the Apex is 50 pounds lighter and makes 165 plus HP it's not a game changer. I love Yamaha but this is yet another chapter in a long list of disappointments for me with Yamaha.
Here is my idea of a game changer
1. Dry weight 500 pounds
2. Weight weight 575
3. 165 HP
4. Power Steering With a C&A razor type ski with 10 inches of carbide.
5. New Chassis
6. New Rear suspension that works like a mono in studder pumps and
and Nytro RTX SE in the moguls
7. New front end that has Zero Ski lift and corners like it's on rails but still eats the bumps Nytro RTX SE in the moguls
8. High out magneto that allows hand warms to work at all times and keep yoru hands warm at any temp.
9. True closed loop fuel Injection.
If I was to build a sled by taking pieces from the four OEMs the only piece I'd use from Yamaha is Power Steering. In my book that's pretty sad considering the "game changer" Promotion!!!!!!!
AGREED

kyzer said:Waaaa Waaa Waaaa Yamaha is probablly being very smart..It costs alot of money for R@D expecially at a time that most of us can't afford a new sled anyways..Everyone wants more horse power so they can go as fast as they can on groomed trails so they can't handle the corner coming up and kill them selves or someone else..
Why would Yamaha just make a sled for a few guys so they can sit on a lake and see who is the fastest, if that's your thing then put a turbo on it..Most people are looking for dependible, efficent, good handling sleds...Most people don't know what Yamaha has coming out and they are bitching...
you know people like you piss me off!! This Is my opinion on what I think a game changer would be. Who are you to question what I would like to buy? You don't think it cost a lot of money to build the apex, or the nytro? How much would it really cost to add some hp? They already have power plants that make big power. Just because a sled like this isn't you cup of tea doesn't mean there arnt a lot of people out there that don't want it.
Most of your post talks about hp. My post had one line on hp. There were 9 lines total that addressed effcent, and good handling. I think you have a problem with people who race and want to go fast.
Do me a favor stick to your two up
