After deciding to do the switch from Polaris to Yamaha and ordering an 05 RX-1ER and buying a Venture 700 I need to stock up on some tools.
I haven't looked too hard, but I haven't seen any Yamaha clutch tools anywhere (other than the dealer). Who sells them? I want to be able to do full rebuilds (the Venture needs cover and sliding bushings right now)so I need to be able to separate the fixed sheeve.
What/where do you suggest?
Steve

I see that you are from Ontario, taking into consideration shipping cost & exchange rates. You are probably better off ordering it from your dealer as i really don't see you saving anything. Bender, Hauck, MT Performance, Pioneer, Aaen and a few others all sell that stuf in their catalog. A couple of them do have some sales on right now, maybe you can pick up a buy on some of the things you are seeking.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check them out.
I'm only an hour drive to the NY border and I have a mail box there for all my sled, car, truck, etc. project parts.

You will only need a clutch puller & an alignment tool. Yammie clutches don,t need a lot of rebuilding like brand x. With proper maintenance you can easily go way over 5 k miles & longer.

Unfortunately they don't have (I couldn't find) any clutch tools for Yamaha.

pg. 119 has yamaha clutch pullers and rebuild kits. Ventures, srx's, v-maxes and RX-1s use all the same puller.

OK, clutch pullers, but not tools to take the clutch apart. You can't really rebuild a Yamaha clutch without removing the fixed sheeve from the spider.
Have a look at the link BBY posted. They have the tools I'm looking for for $125 US. I might buy them through them (still haven't looked around mutch + I found a guy who will le me borrow his for $20 per re/re - although he lives near the dealer - 1 hour drive away).

I admit that tool to disasemble the spider would be good to have , but you wont use that tool but once in a blue moon as you can service (change) the rollers with out major taking apart like the other brands. The puller and alienment tool are what you would use more often than most. I have put many miles on Yamaha sleds in the past 5 years and the only time I needed that tool was when I worked on a buddies clutch that the spider .
was broken.

Well you've got me thinking I might not really need it.
Typically I'm one of those guys who has all of the tools and I always do my own work (except for cylinder boring & some crank work).
How often does the sliding sheeve bushing need changing on these Yamaha clutches? I assume this is probably the first time on this sled. It has 5000 easy cruising miles on it.
With the RX-1 I'm expecting to put on 3-4000+ miles per year (I often put 2500 mile on my Polaris's and that typically included at least one major rebuild one way or another and 100's of hours repairing the other things that break). With my Polaris's I typically did a complete clutch bushing change at least once a year (I ride my sleds hard on tighter, not straight trails, so the clutches see a lot of cycles).
Having said all that - I hate the idea of bringing my clutch to a dealer and having to wait up to a week just to have a couple of bushings changed - not to mention in the time I drive there and back twice, pay, etc. I could have done the job myself...
I also don't intend to trade in the RX-1, nor the Venture any time soon. I'm hoping to put serious miles on the RX-1 over the next 5+ years.
