The problem is, I’m cheap. And, right now I have good roller and belt life. I’m afraid I’ll give up roller life with an aftermarket weight.
Problem with adding weight to stock rivets is, it takes time but is fairly inexpensive!
I found that if you are going with Dalton weights, you should also use their spring combinations! They did not work for me with stock springs. Couldn’t get engagement low enough and mid range where I wanted it! No doubt that their full combos are easier and work great from what I’ve read on TY, and from others who are much better then I, at clutching!

I have the qay 70 with the 240ss tune and they have worked flawlessly for the last 6k +.

IMO, the daltons tend to be the go-to weight for many because they are a quality piece and very easy to adjust an experiment with. My dragy testing showed they had an edge on lowspeed acceleration to about 50-60mph but from 60+ the stock weights were just as good and cruised at a lower rpm. Now this was not making any secondary adjustments, just swapping weights to compare.

So getting back to is there a problem running stock weights with a max16 td flash, do I need aftermarket weights or not?

What does your stock set up turn for rpm’s, if it’s low ? MS16 will give you more rpm’s for sure.
8jp = more revs compared to the xs825.
Stock 35 helix also = more revs when compared to the Dalton reverse helix 35/39!
With that said just give it a try and if you are way over 9000, don’t hold it open!

Use the stock 17 loaded weights and stock 35 helix. . Get the XS belt a good secondary spring {orange from dalton or orange from TP } and use a lower preload and rate Yamaha primary spring like the bl/sil/bl . See what it runs. You can always add a little weight to the weights or use a 35/39 from a later year sled if you need to loose a few more revs. Like Motörhead said they work great and are cheap.So getting back to is there a problem running stock weights with a max16 td flash, do I need aftermarket weights or not?

My 240ss tune which runs in the high 14psi with stock weights, stock helix, Dalton secondary spring, xs belt and would way over rev.

The 17 weights we use are the same as your 20 weights but the 17 weights are loaded much heavier in the tip. About 3.7 grams more. Steel 4.5 gram in the tip vs .8 gram aluminum for the 20 weights.Not here to stir the pot but rather wound like to learn more on this.. how are you guys running stock weights with MS16 and XS belt and be in the rpm range ?

Perhaps the 240ss tune is faster than max spool 16? I know TD uses a higher base HP for their calculations compared to Hurricane.Not here to stir the pot but rather wound like to learn more on this.. how are you guys running stock weights with MS16 and XS belt and be in the rpm range ?

FYI, Hauck powersports offers a 5.9 gram rivet if you want to add more weight.
As I understand it, the heaviest Yamaha rivet is 4.5g.

John Deere has some big #*$&@ rivets that weigh more than 4.5g and can be run in stock Yammy weights as well. I used them in a pinch with a piped 700 SX twenty five or so years ago. Sorry, don’t remember the JD part #, but they do work. Lol
