This is my first new sled and I guess I expected better. My '09 Venture has no rust other than a scrape I put on it. I just picked up an '07 Attak and there isn't a speck of rust on the control arms.

I totally agree. Last summer I bought my sled brand new. Biggest rec vehicle purchase of my life. Tuns of little #*$&@ ticked me off . My apex was perfect when it came to quality.
I drove this sled once and I didn't care about the fit finish. Just chews the hits and bumps.
Going into my second year my sled is setup the way I want it.
It's really not that bad, when you bring your sled home before the snow flies you tend to sit on it in the garage and notice some fitment issues and small things here and there but when you ride you forget all about that.
I've been finding a few dealer setup things that are really starting to piss me off.
The oil level warmed up was 3/8" below the low side of normal. Had to add 16oz. just to get it to the middle of normal.
The coolant cap was 1/4 turn from being tight and the coolant wasn't even up to the upper radiator hose. put in 3/4 of a cup but can't get all the air out. Is there a procedure for bleeding the air?
The coolant overflow tank was 1" below the cold level.
The ski bolts to the spindles were assembled dry without grease. The owners manual even tells you to grease them.
Had to pump six pumps from a standard grease gun to get any kind of a purge on the grease fittings. White lithium was previously used even thought the dealer only sells Yamaha branded low temp grease.
I don't know how necessary this is, if at all, but sitting on the sled pretending I'm racing through the curves (wife thinks I'm going off the deep end) I feel like I can't keep my boot toe hooked in place. Added this rubber and it feels better.
