Such great sleds...amazing technology and execution of that technology!

As I read through these threads, all I read is how bad the skis are on the Apex and Nitro sleds

Yamaha,

Do think you might simply FIX THE DESIGN of the skis you install on an otherwise great sled?

Aren't you embarrassed?

I just can't figure this one out?????????

For god sakes, the ski's?

Think maybe you can fix this for 2009...hell, its only been 11 years now and your customers have been complaining about this since 97, I know I have.

Yamaha, you're being beaten up by all of the sled magazines and your customers.

This is way over due!

This is my "BIGGEST" complaint................... Yammie has been using the same basic ski for at least 8 years.. Come on guys..... Lets modernize a little. #$%&* :o| :ORC MM.

I totally dislike the stock skis for off trail riding as they are too narrow. They are basically worthless for deep snow. I do like the way they perform on pack trails though.

Couldn't agree with you more.

Here is what should be standard on the sleds: USI Triple Threats...

Guys, Yamaha came out with a new stock ski in 2003 for the RX-1 and the same ski was used in 2004 on the Warrior and RX-1. For 2005, they came out with the new saddleless ski that reduced the size of the keel. Also in 2005, Yamaha introduced a new wide ski for mountain sleds. Not saying the design is awesome, but Yamaha has introduced new skis.

Like all manufacturers, Yamaha is faced with setting up their sleds such that they satisfy the majority of their riders aged 16-70, for all types of snow conditions. I would be extremely surprised for Yamaha to come out with a new aggressive ski on their sleds because it would increase the steering effort an alienate too many of their existing customers.

As I mentioned before an little birdie told me that Yamaha knows the skis are an issue. Expect some more aggressive ones in the future.

Besides with Power Steering, X2's with 9" Shapers will feel like good old steel skis and non carbide wear bars...

I completely agree. Yesterday I was out for a long ride and after about 20 miles I could not take it anymore, so I stopped at a sled store and installed a set of Woody duellies, I wanted to get the Shaper duce bars, but they did not have any. But, they made a huge difference, made the rest of the day fun to ride. It makes you wonder if the people at Yamaha that make these decisions actually ride the sleds.

I did a bit of reading on the problem and I decided to shim my skis first, If I didn't like that I would get the dooly runners. Well I have to say I had no issues with how the stock carbides bit, the control is great, the only problem I had was the darting. So 2 days ago I shimmed my skis, 0.25" is all you need to take away the darting. It's a smple fix, and it's cheaper than replacing carbides, especially when mine are brand new. Maybe in a couple of seasons I'll replace them with a set of dooly's!

What is kind of funny to me is BEFORE riding my FX Nytro I was convinced I was going to need new skis because of all I had heard about how terrible the stock skis are...

Yes I have added aftermarket skis on my play sled BUT the stock skis are NOT nearly as bad as I was lead to believe!

Is there better sks out there YES, but I really thought they were MUCH better than I thought they would be because of all the complaints....

Might be tough for Yamaha to come out with a "new" ski with out copying
somebody elses design somewhat as Ski-doo did with their Precision skis.

Some Yamaha sled buyers desire/demand aftermarket skis no matter what.

Bad skis setup is what riders of other brands seem to hear about or expierence when they ride a buddys improperly set up Yamaha sled.It darts,it won't turn, heavy steering,it pushes and it don't steer like my sled (brand -X).

True not everyone likes the stock skis or wants to put the time into making them perform better.Shimming alone or dual or tripple runner bars do work great for many.

Solutions----
MABEY they could just buy brand A or B models for trail and mountain and improve on it and be done with it. ;)!
Or like Polaris did/does with the M-10 work out an agreement to use a product and put it on at the factory.
Yamaha could offer aftermarket options (skis) on an all year and/or spring order sled(s) or just on certain model sleds.1-2 mountain models and 1 or 2 trail models.

Incentive to spring order?

Yamaha should delete the Yamaha ski cost and add the aftermarket ski cost (bought in mass #= discount) then add mabey $150-200+.
Whats an extra $150-200 on a $10,000 machine when you pay $300+ for a set of new skis to put on after you buy it anyway.

Just my .02
