The stock skis never bothered me on my 98 srx, 2002 Viper, Apex, but I think they are TERRIBLE on my Nytro's.

Ive been saying this for the past 6 years now too..
THE SKIS SUCK.... and thats almost an understatement..
with all the complaints from FX NYTRO owners i would say, i wouldnt buy one..(ride and handling complaints) ill just stay with my old tryed and trued APEX with pilot skis and 13mm bar and revalved rear shock

Well I have to say I had no issues with how the stock carbides bit, the control is great, the only problem I had was the darting. So 2 days ago I shimmed my skis, 0.25" is all you need to take away the darting. It's a smple fix, and it's cheaper than replacing carbides, especially when mine are brand new. Maybe in a couple of seasons I'll replace them with a set of dooly's!
This is huge. So many people don't know you can set up skis on a sled much less how to actually do it. Made a huge difference on my 05 RX-1.

WHY New ski's?
I agree with the thought but lok at the shimming problem first. Why should we have to continue "shimming" all Yamaha models when they have known about this particular fix for 10years now ? If shimming the ski's makes such a big difference, (and it does) why doesn't Yamaha make the ski with thicker rubbers or compensate for this 1/4" shim everyone has added since 1997 to EVERY YAMAHA sled......that is the simple and common sense question here! HELLO......engineer the ski's to set higher in the front and alleviate a lot of complaints! Much cheaper then the whole new ski design and much simpler yet they still won't do it? Kind of like running the "pro action crap" for a rear suspension when all the other manufacturers run a torsion spring variation because they know it's far superior. The pro action version sucked....yet Blue did it for ever and still does on a couple models.....why? OH and here's one more good point...everyone knows the approach angle is one of the key factors in powder ridign and getting on top quick and efficient yet FOR EVER Yamaha continue's to give us steep approach angles.... Doo , Polaris and Cat figured this out years ago yet Blue keeps doing the same stupid thing....why?
Example: A 151" Skidoo Rev. has the exact same amount of rubber "on the ground" as my 162" Apex Mnt. and it's suppose to have 5.5" less yet the design given to us by Yamaha continues to contrbute to the poor approach angle and lack of track contacting the ground.........why?
