Strange thing happened to me today and want to know if anyone has any thoughts? My bottom right yellow light started flashing so I thought I was low on fuel (2 bars left on guage). Added fuel and about 3 miles later, the same light came on flashing and then the sled killed. Started right up and headed home. Checked all fluids and found nothing low or abnormal. While the light was flashing I did not notice any other icons or error codes. Thinking perhaps overheating I started sled and let idle for about 10 minutes, went for a long ride and could not get it to do it again? Hope it is not an intermittent issue? Anyone ever hear of this?

Thanks!

she overheated, make sure you got a 50/50 mix for the antifreeze, and check to make sure all the air is out of the system

Our 08 apex did this a couple times the first year. It was common I guess. It was getting warm but the light I've heard comes on long long before it really does any damage. Fix for this was I added rear heat exchanger, never came on again.

My MTX did this alot to me last year in the UP on a sunday. Took it in on monday and about 2 mins of tilling them what it did they took it in back and put in a new sensor and its run good for over 600miles now. They told me that yamaha knows about this but they have not made a change yet. I say WTF :die

Were you riding in loose snow or down an icy road/trail? They have to have snow hitting the coolers.

By the way, can you please list your sled and year in your signature so we know what year sled you are asking about.

Mine did the same, took to dealer and there was a defective sensor.
Do you know specifically which sensor it was? I have checked all connections, fuel/oil/emergency brake, coolant, etc....
It happened again today. There is no codes at all, simply flashing yellow and at the same time the sled wants to kill like it is running out of gas. Plenty of gas. When it happens, the sled starts up and runs fine, bring it back home and recheck and inspect what can be causing it, no luck yet?

If it's still under warranty, take it in.

If not, read up in the service manual on how to enter diagnostic mode and check any fault codes in the ECU memory.

If the Temp Sensor is bad, it is located in the coolant line very near the Thermostat Housing.

Learning to read the fault codes is a good point. It can save you from wondering if you have a problem or not.

Thanks guys,

Still at it as I have pretty much stripped the sled and checked all my electrical connectors and wiring, including the fuel cell connection under the seat. Did not find anything unusual. I am in the process of putting it all back together and will run it to see if it comes back. BTW it is a 2006 GT with 2300 miles on it. There are no fault codes coming up on the display when this happens, only the yellow warning light flashes and the motor wants to kill as if it were running out of gas. I have been able to fix anything in the past but this one is kicking my butt! My dealer said the flashing indicator only can be 3 things: Low oil, no or low fuel, or the emergency brake is on. None of these three are the issue.

If this is not just an overheat condition, I am beginning to suspect the wiring to the ECU. Down in the nose of the sled. Either the connections to it or the actual wiring chaffing. Typically, this shows up as an intermittent problem, that clears itself as soon as the short stops.

I guess this would be a good time to have a Temp Gage installed (i.e. so you know what you actually have going on with the coolant to rule it in or out of the picture.) In the meantime, look at every wire and harness that runs by metal. This would include the Stator wires coming out of the engine.

It also could be an intermittent low voltage condition caused by a Stator about to go bad. (Low Probability) You might want to consider measuring the resistance across the Stator. And, ... if it happens again, measure the voltage across the jumper cables to make sure you are seeing > 13 VDC with the sled running.

Have you checked all fuse holders to ensure they are not corroded. Also, there could be an intermittent fuse. Don't forget the Master Fuse down by the battery.

Did it crank but not start when it died?

Thanks! I will check those other areas such as the fuses, connectors by the ECU, etc.... When the problem happens it seems to be about 20-30 minutes into riding. When the light flashes and the engine wants to kill it feels like it is running out of gas. I shut it down, and then it will fire right back up and be fine again. One time it happened again about 2 miles after the restart. I thought it had something to do with my connections on the fuel cell but when I removed the seat, the connectors were all fine. I removed them, inspected and reseated. I have never had a problem before and hope I can get this resolved before our first trip in January....

Thanks again for all the help trying to locate the root-cause!

I had an issue with my 2001 SRX that sounds just like what your saying.i hit a deer going about 75mph+- which effed the front of the sled up,i put it back together and then took it out and thats when problems started.found out that when i hit the deer it yanked my hood back and skinned a wire in the wire harness,it was touching metel, and it would only have its issues every now and again sometimes alot at any givin moment or not for hours.it was a pain in the neck to find but i found it.have you owned the sled since it was new?have you hit any deer, crashed or rolled it lol sorry.just trying to cover all angles.i have had issues with toyz in the past, and electrical can be one tuff mother!! not SAYING its electrical though. :hide:

Yes, owned since new and no deer - YET! The only thing that was done different over the summer was the panels on my seat were changed to white. I thought perhaps I did something de-installing and re-installing my seat - especially to the fuel tank connections or seat connection to the tail light. I believe I have checked all connections and any shorts but have yet to find it. Now are snow is dismal and will take this opportunity to visit the gargage every evening after work to see if I have missed anything. By the way when the warning light flashes it is my understanding that the ECU generates a code that is stored in memory. Anybody know how to check the code without taking it to a dealer?
