Ive been throwing the idea around about selling my current sled and either buying a 13 nytro xtx 1.75 or a polaris assault 144 800cc. My reason for change is I want a lighter sled or boost. I also don't really want to give up the yamaha aspect of things, reliability, quality ect.... I do 70-30 on/off really but lately Ive been doing more off then on. I have 2 yamaha dealers relatively close and are decent places, and 1 polaris dealer which I have never dealt with. So i am just looking for some of your thoughts on these or other sleds you guys have in mind both good or bad. If you have any questions for me to help me with my decisions go ahead and ask away.

With the current setup I have, I have no issues with really. Mostly like others the apex isn't light.

Thanks

The Nytro with a properly set up 180 kit and a 42" Skinz front end will be a very fun sled. The power and throttle response of the stock compression engine with boost is so much fun and the Skinz front end not only fixes the on trail Nytro handling quirks but makes your off trail time a blast too!

There are some other mods that many will endorse as well but those are the two big ones that will make it a blast to ride.

The Polaris is a great riding sled there is no doubting that, but the power or reliability won't be there. So you have to pick your priorities.

I hear ya on your post. If I go with a nytro the first year will be just riding it. With mods to follow during the first summer after.

It really comes down to this with my experience It's 2 stroke vs 4 stroke.

Well if that's the case I'm hands down a favorite of the Yamaha 4 stroke. Lol

if you decide to go with Polaris you better get the warranty, not just talking trash (they are nice) but out of 3 800 that ride in our group 2 already blew engines 1 of those is actually 2nd rebuild. under 1000 miles, but then again you won't have to worry about donuts and bushings :tg:

I had my Nytro for sale this year and was going to go back to a 2 stroke(either a renegade backcountry or switchback). I just couldnt get happy with the reliability issues on a 2 stoke vs a 4 stroke so I decided to keep my nytro and make changes that would make it more suitable to me.

My buddy had a new 13 800 switchback which I was impressed with till it kept on going in limp mode and not able to rev over 5000 rpm. (Not to mention motor problems that alot of people have). He wouldnt try any hills because he didnt trust it. I am not bashing polaris because i do like them but I couldnt make myself be happy with the feeling that I was taking a couple steps backwards with reliability. (Not trying to convince you just telling you my own thoughts and reasoning)

That being said Nytros have their own problems but they usually wont leave you in the woods and you can get home (donuts, weaksubframes, balljoints)

Good luck with your decision, they are both nice sleds and both have their own advantages. :sled1:

That is probably my biggest negative about polaris is that 800 reliability. What was the reason for not trying the ski doo back country?

How is the nytro in stock form? Coming from the apex I don't know if going to the nytro would be like going backwards a bit. I know mods will be done in the future but at first I can't see myself spending that kind of money right away. What are some mods that are a must do? I've been reading a lot about the sub frame reinforcements.

Keep in mind my Nytro is a 2009 and they have made some upgrades since then.

The 2013 is running tuner skis (not sure how they are in powder) and you will already have the 1.75 track. First thing I did was wider and better handling skis heavier and this summer I am putting on a Backcountry track.

As far as must do mods go, I would say GrizzGusset kit for the subframe. Some people say OFT relocator as well although I have not added this. Adding extra fuel is also a must on a nytro. I added the Skidoo Gas caddy on mine.

When I had my nytro forsale I was leaning hard towards the backcountry. My buddy has a 600 backcountry and it is a very nice machine. He got 335 km to a tank of gas. The 600 doesnt have the torque and power that the nytro has. The 800 isnt as good as the 600 on gas but it is still not bad. The Main reason I didnt get a new machine (polaris or ski-doo) is because I knew I could make a few more mods and I would be happy with my nytro. My wife also said she would go more if I had something that you could ride 2 up on but then later she changed her mind and told me she probably wouldn't go much more anyway.

What finalized my deicsion was that I didnt want to spend 14000 on a new machine when my Nytro is fine with a few upgrades and the nytro has reliability second to none.

Hope this helps. :sled1:

New machine prices are crazy no doubt. The 13 nytro I'm looking at is new 0 miles for 8699US. Which I don't think is a bad deal.

I had a 153" Apex GT with a Polaris suspension for a few years, then a Nytro RTX, and now a Cat Proclimb M800 153".

One of the things that impressed me the most about the Nytro was the torque and throttle response. I thought I'd be taking a step backwards going from the Apex to the Nytro, but it really surprised me. I had an Ulmer clutch kit in the Nytro and that thing was a beast from 0-80 mph. I also loved the ability of the suspension to soak up the rough stuff. It really was a good straight line bump sled. That combined with the snappy engine made the Nytro one of the most fun sleds I've ever had, as long as I was going straight. It definitely had better suspension than the Apex and a more aggressive rider position. It also felt lighter and more nimble than the Apex. I didn't take it on twisty trails much, but it wasn't so great. I think new skis could really help it out there. The older yamaha trail skis aren't worth much.

As much as I liked my Nytro, I wanted a long track sled again that I could take to the mountains, and after a lot of research I bought the Cat Proclimb M800 2 stroke. I decided Cat had the best motor and a really good chassis, and the clutching issues are fixable. In some ways it was nice to go back to the 2 stroke. Everything seems so much simpler, smaller, and lighter. Fit and finish was actually really good. I also loved how responsive and lightweight the chassis was - totally different league than the Apex or Nytro. I feel it would be a similar situation between the Switchback and XTX for you - the Switchback would be the most fun sled to ride off trail. You won't be fighting it as much. I do miss the pull of the Nytro motor, and I'm big Yamaha guy, but I'm really happy with the switch I made, for now. I think the new Viper in a 153" length would be the ultimate sled.

I think both the XTX and Switchback would be a big step up. But the Nytro will take some mods to make it handle like the Polaris, and I think it will always have a "heavy" feeling. For power, the Nytro wins hands down. The engine alone makes it a fun sled, and that can make up for other shortcomings depending on how you ride. If I were you and wanted a 2 stroke I'd check out a Cat XF800 High Country, since I don't trust the Polaris 800.
Hope this gives you some stuff to think about at least.

Thought I would throw this idea out there also...

What about a 2013 nytro 1.75 or the new viper 141. I'm really starting to like the new viper. But for the price of the viper I could get the nytro and turbo it. Or buy the viper and ride it a year and then consider turboing that?
