I just install a ZX2 in an 04 RX1. I had to remove the back wheels to get the skid into place and the only way I could get the wheels back on was to install the adjuster blocks backwards to move the rear axle ahead about 1". By moving the rear wheels ahead 1", everything lines up and adjusts properly. If I didn't know better, I would say the skid is mounted back too far in the tunnel but the adapter kit is pretty fool-proof and lines up using factory holes. Has anyone else seen this? Any suggestions??

zx2 install

Install your suspension outside in the cold.It will shrink outside.I installed one in a srx it aslo was real tight.also try jacking up the front of your sled. That was the only way i could get mine in.Shane

I just got mine in and it barely fit even with the adjusters all the way loose. OF course it was 70 degrees in my shop. I also have a new track so I'm sure that was helping as I know they stretch.

I had a heck of a time getting the holes to line up, ended up following rxrider's guidlines in the 4 stroke garage thread he has going.

Thanks guys

I must be missing something here. My shop was around 70 degrees too but even with the adjustments all the way forward, I still needed about an inch. Maybe I should have put the skid in the freezer before I started....

I'll check out rxrider's thread

Yep I was off over 2" and if I could tell you how I got it I would but I just muscled it together! LOL

After you see what rxrider did this may help a little I forced the shaft so that I could see part of the hole then I stuck a screw driver in the hole and forced the hole to line up, then I stuck a 1x4 between the rails and the rear arm to help hold it while I quickly removed the screwdriver and installed my pre-locktit'ed bolt. I needed about 4 hands but ended up getting it to hold just long enough to get the bolts in.

mine slid in slick as a bean--heated garage too. might have been the quickest skid install I have ever done.

This is by far the easiest skid install I have ever encountered. To come up with the correct procedure was the tricky part, I spent twice the amount of thinking compared to the actual time installing it. :) ;)! So far I'm happy with it. Will take the sled out for a testride tomorrow morning. Will post back with whatever I find on the skid, both in the rxrider's turbo sled and in this forum.

Thanks rxrider

Actually, I looked at your thread and printed pics of your skid mounting locations (thanks!). From what I could see, everything is lined up properly and from what I have read on here, I'm not the only one to have the skid go in tight. Maybe the issue is more prominent on the 121" skids. Anyway, I'll check and re-check everything this weekend.

Thanks, Brad

Do you have a new track in there?

It might be different on the 121" versions compared to my 136". I did not touch the revolver mechanism, it was not needed in my install. My track is on its 3rd season so it has streched a bit I guess, and makes for an easier install.

Did you take out the 4 pins from the revolver? You may have to.

Try placing a 2x4 piece of wood on its edge under the skid just in front of the rear idler wheels. This will make the rear shaft go into the tunnel more before the front part of the skid touches the ground. When the front part of the skid touches the ground the skid is puched backwards.

The track has a few seasons on it so it's stretched as much as it's going to stretch.

I did take the pins out of the revolver and even turned it to different positions to see if it would help.

I didn't try putting a 2X4 under the track but I did put a floor jack under the front of the skid to push it into different positions while the rear was jacked up. I'll try the 2X4 this weekend. I also tried disconnecting the limiter strap to see if that would help.

One thing I noticed is that there is a full 1" between the tunnel protectors and the track lugs (stock track). I read one thread that suggested 1/8". My 06 Nytro has about 1/4". I wonder if that could make the difference??

Bradford - I have now read my UPDATE - December 5. Installing the ZX-2 post. It had a few errors to it, sorry about that. If you did follow my post to the T you would not be able to install the ZX-2 the way I tried to describe it.

At one point I said "jack the skid up in the front" this was erronous, it should have said "jack the sled up int the front". Also there was no pic of what I told you to do, again sorry. I will now read my posts more carefully after posting to check for errors and misspellings.

But then again, thank you for noticing me of the problem. The post is now edited, misspelling corrected and pic of the jacking procedure is added.

Re-read my post UPDATE - December 5. ZX-2 install, and give it another try.

Bradford - how's it going, have you finished off your ZX-2 install?

We put about 80 miles on it on Saturday! (I never drove it except to load it on the truck at the end of the run.) The owner said he was happy with it. It soaked up the bumps real well and never bottomed out. The other updates we did were an Apex seat and a 6" riser kit. Absolutely transformed the sled! I found the ergos to be very close to my 06 Nytro. The real test will be the first 500 mile weekend...

Thanks for your help!

Brad

The Apex seat is a big improvement. I have the '06 Nytro seat in, it's the same as the Apex but a little more on the firm side.
