Chrishall - it'll be a battle - but you can call yamaha cust service and go to town on them - Yamaha knows they have a bad skid (mono) in the 05's. Some people have been taken care of - others not.
Yam will not help you with rust. The mono is worse than any skid I have ever had with rust. It is true black skids don't show rust as much - but I had a yellow skid on my 02 Polaris XC (m-10) - it looked better after 3 years than my mono did after 1 year - my XC was always on an open trailer...
They will NOT upgrade unless you break it under warranty or have a dealer you know very very well.
The 05 is an excellent sled otherwise - the updates will cost you $200-$300. IF your gonna get the sled - I'd reccomend spending the $$ for the updates.
Bushings and collars all fried after 1900 miles - replaced by my dealer. Dealer also put in zerks at no charge.
Then front arm goes taking out track, ra, track adjustment bolts, rear arm and more - $1400 in parts and had to fight for 2 weeks with Yam to cover it and update to 06 - they...
It started about 7 mins late for me - then errored and restarted 7 mins after that - played in full fromthere - nothing to get excited about. KEpt hearing about a big gun - never showed up - biggest sled 700 140 HP and a turbo 750 at 140 hp
The problem is, Yam has typically been a trail cruiser sled, over the past 2-3 years, they have gained a lot of market share and a lot more aggressive crowd of riders are buying their sleds now. Only makes sense they have to catch up in the suspension dept. And they are getting there. It is...
Half the reason to buy these sleds is the convenience - and having to pull the skid every year and replace all bushing is a joke.
Pulling the skid can be simple and it can be not so simple as well. Anyone who has ever torn a sled apart knows all the little stupid things you can run into. Not...
Like I said - just leave the bad analogies out of it!! Your just getting even wilder now.
Here is an easy one - Suburban or Tahoe -which one handles tight cornering better??
Then at the same time - take a 10" circular saw and cut the tightest circle you can in a piece of plywood - then take a 4" circular blade and cut a circle - which one do you think would cut a smaller circle assuming max depth of cut??
Lets just leave bad analogies out of this :)
You believe an extra 1 1/2" width of track makes a difference but not any added length??
I don't even have to argue with you - you contradict yourself :)
Then why did the other manus go to the narrow track but keep the length short??
It's futile brother - if you had a 100 inch track - it'd turn sharper and quicker than 121 - may not hook up as well coming out of the corner - but would allow more entry speed and better turning.
Yeah, that is why you see the Firecats doing so well in snowcross. Longer skid hurts cornering ability in tight and twisties. They sometimes corner better you mention, may be the case in sweeping turns (and I still be hard convinced of that) - but no way when your cutting hard.
You'll absolutely suffer in the tight and twistys whether you go to the 136 or 144. The Expert rides higher than the stock skid as well - expect a little more ski lift and roll. Anyone that tells you they can go through tight and twistys better with a longer skid - likely didn't have their...
