Here are pics of the R1 stock muffler installed on a Phazer.
Much lighter than stock, looks stocks, barely louder than stock. You can buy them cheap too!
Dude!
Changed out all wheels/bearing and added SLP anit-wear pads to my 7000-mile '06 Apex last fall. Last year best top MPH was in the 107 range on the dream-o-meter. This year I can easily pull it into the low 120's. I did the math again and I am the one riding the sled.
Dude?
SLP anti-wear pads are a huge improvement on my Apex. I have seen an increase of 10 - 15 MPH on the top end and have noticed signficicantly better fuel economy this year after installing them. I got a legitimate 15MPG with my Apex this weekend - I've never seen it that high before. Mine will...
I got time to pull out the SOTP dyno tonight. (That's the Seat Of The Pants dyno) THe R1 muffler actually seems to have livened my Phazer up a bit! I am running a Phazer Mountain Lite at sea level and it is still clutched for 8,000 feet. Hitting the rev limiter should be no problem - but...
I am back with an update and question...
I pulled the Muzzy off my Phazer - it was simply too LOUD! It was a straight through design slip-on from a Z7 street bike.
I now have a stock muffler from a Yamaha R1 street bike installed. It looks great, is as light as the Muzzy (about 4 pounds)...
This thread got dredged up from months ago - so I'll update with what I did...
I bought a Muzzy pipe for $35 that orgininally fit a Z7 Kawi. I used flex pipe to hook it up and built a bracket to hold it in place. Looks good, great weight savings, but quite loud. Sounds like an old, early...
I'd like to know the same...anybody?
I may try it for my son - he can trailride it here and throw the 2" back on and join us in the mountains when we go.
Am I correct that the driver pitch is 2.52 on these sleds ('07 Mtn Lite)?
I doubt it - especially if you didn't change anything!
At the end of last season I had a miserable, hard-steering issue develop. My shoulders ached after a day of riding. I suspected ice build up, but thawing the sled did not help. When I lifted the front of the sled off the ground and...
I have found that the biggest culprit is the bushing that holds the steering shaft near the top of the shaft (above the chain case). Cleaning and lubing this bushing completely solved my binding problem that was identical to what you describe.
Top speed will not be as good on the MTX unless you regear. And - the bigger track takes more to spin. My stock Mtn Lite hits 77 at sea level, but not much more.
The 2" paddle track is not ideal for trail riding and it can't be studded.
The idea of adding boost is probably not a great...
IMO a reading of 150 while riding is erroneous.
I installed a Daytona digital gauge and get a consistent reading around 170 when riding in abundant powder. On hard pack trails I see readings between 170 and 185, occasionally up into the mid-190's. I believe that the radiator fan kicks on...
Last year I had my Apex reverse linkage adjusted perfectly. Over the summer I disassembled the chaincase to remove the drive shaft for PTO side bearing replacement. Without chaning any adjustments on the reverse linkage I now have a binding problem when shifting out of reverse back to drive...
Here is a link to SLP's site with an example of the anti-wear pads. The head on the actual "wear pad" is not as rounded as the picture makes it appear. The head is much flatter and will not wear a groove in the center of the hyfax. http://www.slp.cc/catalog.cfm?pageID=de ... ductID=488

11.25" x 25" will allow you to tuck the cover under the stock tool box in back using two of the tool box mounting bolts to secure the back of the plate. I used .060 material.
I used .060 aluminum cut to 11.25" x 25". Covered the rear opening only. Tuck the piece under the tool box. I used 9 rivets and the existing bolts that mount the tool box. Cost me $18.
