This thread got dredged up from months ago - so I'll update with what I did...
I bought a Muzzy pipe for $35 that orgininally fit a Z7 Kawi. I used flex pipe to hook it up and built a bracket to hold it in place. Looks good, great weight savings, but quite loud. Sounds like an old, early 70's twin-cylinder Arctic Cat!

Soulhammer did you pick up your Phazer yesterday???? You like it??? What color??? I buy my sled parts over the summer most are 50% off or more. Thats what I did. I will see if I can get a video this weekend of my girls stock Phazer vs. mine for an accurate comparison of db's.

a vid would be great. i rode my new phazer home last night and i love it. it reminds me of why i love riding so much. its responsive light and lots of fun but i am seeing the ice build up on the rear already so ill have to see about patching that hole.

okay my exaust kicks arse...stock pipe, tube, and mounts...I tucked a stainless FMF that ran me $125 at the local yamaha dealer. just got it installed today. anyways the FMF silencer was built for a 450F yfz yamaha quad so i figured it would work with some minor modifications, actually its great and stayed reletivly close to local noise limits as far as DB is concerned. I haven't haven't had a chance to test it out on the trail yet but i have a rally coming up this weekend and will have a more accurate review for it and hopefully some pics by next week some time. if my guestimations are correct there wasn't much power gain, like maybe 2 horse tops but the weight savings is insane, already notice alot lighter in the rear when i pick the @$$ end up.

I totally agree ,way lighter and cheaper and I find that the fmf sounds crisper than my buddies excell.

I am back with an update and question...
I pulled the Muzzy off my Phazer - it was simply too LOUD! It was a straight through design slip-on from a Z7 street bike.
I now have a stock muffler from a Yamaha R1 street bike installed. It looks great, is as light as the Muzzy (about 4 pounds) and sounds very close to stock. I can post pictures if anyone is interested. I got the muffler off eBay for less than $40 - and it was a brand new take-off.
Do you think my assumption is correct that this muffler will flow just as well as the stocker? There are two mufflers on a R1, each handling 1/2 of the motor or 500cc. My concern is that both the inlet and outlet pipe diameter is smaller on the R1 muffler than the stocker. I've not had the sled on the snow (finished up late last night) to see if I can notice any decrease or improvement in performance or RPM. Opinions???

Only way to really know is to dyno it or do some comparison drags with a buddy.Never know it may help power.

Where are you finding the dyno results for Excell?

I got time to pull out the SOTP dyno tonight. (That's the Seat Of The Pants dyno) THe R1 muffler actually seems to have livened my Phazer up a bit! I am running a Phazer Mountain Lite at sea level and it is still clutched for 8,000 feet. Hitting the rev limiter should be no problem - but with the Muzzy it didn't hit it too often and generally only on take off when spinning the track. I could wind the motor out on the flats and hit 77 MPH (remember, mountain gearing) and not bump the rev limiter with the Muzzy. Now, with the R1 stock muffler I can hit the rev limiter pretty much at will. The best part is that the sound is VERY close to stock. Local DNR would have had a field day with me if I had run the Muzzy. This set up will not bring any attention from DNR or the land owners that are kind enough to let trails run across their property.
Check eBay - these R1 mufflers go fairly cheap! And I have a Muzzy for sale cheap now too!
