Ok guys, the same old question over again. "Is a Phazer going to work for me?" I want/need a Yamaha 4-stroke-NO SMOKE! I have a worn out Cat that I need to get rid of and step upto a real sled. My buddy just got a 40th Apex LTX GT. It's sweet! BUT. Money burns a hole in my pocket and my wonderful ex-wife screw-up my credit (truefully!). SO. I was looking to get an '09 Phazer MTX. I live in Northcentral Iowa. If I ride here, It's some ditch baggin' and mostly river ridin' since the Iowa River about a mile from my house. AND. I'll be going to Duluth, MN and Hayward, WI areas riding. I want to do some boondocking and trail riding. A kid I work with just got an '07 Phazer FX that he said that he's had upto 87 mph. That's about perfect speed for me, a little more would be better. I had also thought about a Hartman 151" kit and a MPI blower kit later on. Any thoughts?

Top speed will not be as good on the MTX unless you regear. And - the bigger track takes more to spin. My stock Mtn Lite hits 77 at sea level, but not much more.

The 2" paddle track is not ideal for trail riding and it can't be studded.

The idea of adding boost is probably not a great one unless you want the challenge/satisfaction of doing the work and love to tune sleds.

You should consider a Nytro XTX - they are selling new for under $8000 which is FAR less than you'd have into a boosted Phazer MTX.

My 2 cents!

Even though I bought a '09 Phazer MTX and really like it so far... if you are looking for higher speeds the Phazer probably isn't the best choice (not that it is bad). Also, if you do more high speed trail riding the 2" paddle is not ideal either.

I personally went in last spring to snowcheck a Nytro XTX but could not afford it... so I went with the Phazer MTX. I was willing to give up some top speed and I figured the 2" paddle would hold up for me since I do more off trail riding and go out west a few times a year.

I mainly wanted EFI, more rider forward and a little longer track for out west.

Don't get me wrong I really like my Phazer MTX... it mainly comes down to what features you have to have and which ones you are willing to trade off slightly.

Ok. snomadTT, I probably wouldn't stud any sled that I get. I was also looking at a Nytro XTX, '08 40th Nytro MTX, or an '06 Attack. Money wise, I may be able to come up with $4000 or so cash in a year, maybe. I've tried to go through Yamaha for a loan on a newer sled. But like I said, even though I'm good with my money, my great ex-wife got her house and car repoed after the divorce, before I could get my name off of them. I love my friend's 40th LTX GT, I just think that it has to much HP for the lack of handling it has. But, I still think about an Attack with a tunnel extension latter on.

ive been wondering the same thing. Right now i ride a 2000 MM700, 144, can, headgasket mod, veri flows in the dash. We mostly ride in the yellowstone or bighorns area. Everyone i ride with has newer RMK's or Summit's and to be honest they run circles around the old max. The thing feels like a tank compared to the new ones. Ive been looking in to a phazer mtx for awhile now. How would the power compare to the MM700? I know i wont be the high mark king with the phazer but that's fine. ive never rode a phazer, and im kinda worried that it will be underpowered in stock form. Can anyone help me with alittle advice?

So now that the river here is all packed and the way that everyone here wants it to be, I was able to river it for the first time of the year. AND, it sucked!! I don't see how anyone in there right mind could enjoy a hard as hell packed snow and ice trail! Luckly we were able to find a few areas that had some nice drifted in snow and screamed 'BOONDOCKING!' Wow that was fun! Now if I only had a Phazer!!!!!
