Watch for over heating, depending on snow conditions and air temp. Toss a little extra snow on your skid and running boards the first few miles. Do not hold the throttle steady for long periods of time, accelerate slowly and deaccelerate slowly as you ride. The motor is almost bullet proof so do...
I used to ride the trails, then I got my first long track mtn sled. Wiith a 136", 1 1/4" track (yamaha of course) and boy did I Have fun leaveing my buddies on their 1" track machines in my powder.
The long and short of it is, once you ride an untracked meadow swimming in 2+ feet of powder for...
The new jacks work very well. I'm lucky enough to have 2 friends I ride with that Have them :-)
They carry the extra 5# :-( I don't have to spend money :-) One guy and a jack can get out of almost any stick. I ride alone sometimes so I will be soon buying a jack to carry on those days.
Have rode with L/H gold finger for some time now. I Will never ride without a L/H throttle again. I always preferred side hill'n to the left, now it is easier to the right. Gold finger is not all that easy to install, simple but not easy. If you take your time it does fit nice and has a clean...
I have been riding with Polaris 800-159&162, 900-166, Cat 800-159, 900-162 And Yamaha 700-141, and the main Difference I see comes from rider ability. The climbing edge goes to the Polaris 900 by a little bit, but The vibration on the 2005 900 polaris is so bad that your feet go numb. Have not...
Set your clutch up right (05 specs are not bad).
Skis for sure, I love my simmons but price sucks.
Raise the handle bars 2-4" depending on your height. Left hand throttles can make sidehill'n more fun. These are all thing I would do to make the sled more fun and easier to ride before I went...
I had the same problems till I installed a Carb Heater shut off valve. I don't even consider turning on carb heaters till it is 0 degrees F or colder. The first thing I notice is the top RPMs drop off 200-300 if the carbs (and maybe fuel lines) start getting too hot. Taking a break with the hood...
whats coming for 2006
Lets look at history.....1997 big changes, 2000 large changes, 2003 huge changes, 2006? I'm guessing big changes: 159x15x2.4, less20#, plus 5# boost with option for 9#, $12,000 price tag and more orders than they can fill
I have Simmons skis and have not had that problem, But maybe I have not been in as crusty snow as you are talking about. Anyone notice this problem with simmons skis?
Mountain Performance Sells jumper cables with a rectifier for charging up your batt from ac to dc for about $60, so you don't need a buddy with a batt in their sled. Pull starting with strap works good also. Try to get your sled level as possible, it makes it easier to pull start.
I like your idea, but so that we do not confuse The good folks at Yamaha, lets simplify things for them. We want a RX1, with a 162" track, at a max 520lbs dry, with 220-230 hp for $12,500 out the door from the factory.
That would get my check book out. ;)!
Mountain Max, Mtn. Viper, RX1 mtn. are all the same. Just loosen the handle bar bolts till the bars can be moved with slight effort, push forward till they stop, then give a hard push and the stop tab on the bars breaks off. Adjust bars, tighten bolts and enjoy.
riding 8-11m' will lower your rpms slightly. Do not gear down until you have 3,000 miles or more on it.
By then I think you will be glad you didn't gear it down. I ride from 8-13m' weigh 190 and pack 15lbs of survival gear and the stock gearing is fine for me. Make sure you get the jetting...
Thanks for info. My sled is climbing better than ever and quick out of the hole. I did not want to make any changes unless neccesary. I got my 800 buddies taking their sleds in for tuneups this year
:-)
What is a reasonable RPM to have a RX1 max out at and not risk damage?
I have a stock engine, need to save more $ for turbo. Got mine set up so I do between 10.5m-10.7m, depending on the weather conditions, is that too much? I need a :ORC
Learnng to ride in mtns
While you are learning to ride the mtns, pick up the instument panel pieces, carry some super glue, duck tape and go to work. I'm a pretty good mtn rider and I sill get in over my head once in a while. Mine has been put back together three times, it is not pretty but...
Thanks for the input on left hand throttles. I ordered the gold finger and will post my results later after trying it out. Cost now is $110 with shipping.
