Sleds are different from quads,as quads have needle and ball crank bearings, and will tolorate some water in the oil. Sleds have sleeve bearings and water will score bearing surfaces and lead to rod failure.

I was in the same boat 2 years ago, and i'm glad i went with the xtx. I had oppertunitys to drive the standard nytro, and some se's and the xtx is much more stable at speed , and in the rough. It's faster,and gets better milage too.
Don't get to cought up in the subframe issue , it's not as bad as some people make it out to be. When the bushings wear the back of the upper a arm will start to rub the spring and people get half cocked that the frame is bent.
The better set up is 7.5 shapers middle and 4 inch outside on 6.9 pilots. The 6.9 along with being wider ,have deeper keels and bite better than the 5.7s.
My xtx on snow outruns my friends 09 1200xr shortie. The xtx will run a honest 100 mph on the gun,on packed snow. On ice i'm sure you can add 10 mph to that easy. In spring of 09 american snowmobiler ran these sleds down a groomed lake for top speed and the xtx ran top speed 98.48 mph and 94.26...
To answer your ? on why the crack, the tunnel starts to flex over time from the rivits wearing and put stress on the some what ridgidly mounted exhaust system. I had to replace alot of the rivits where the tunnel and the bulkhead meet. If you see loose rivits, check if they spin, drill them and...
To get the front wheels out of a xtx, remove the bolt from the upper shock mount, the cross shaft bolt ,which the wheels are on, and the linkage bolt that connects the front arm to the rear arm. When bolts are out just take and flip the top of the shock over backwards and remove the assembly...
I don't get why some of these bend so easy, and ones like mine hold up. My sled gets ridden hard, and as of late been double jumping it on my mx track, and straight as a arrow.
